Spent 10 minutes on the phone today with Steve at SafeCraft. Excellent advice and service for a last minute project.

These guys know the performance game!

Yes, great guys & great products. I bought both my passenger & driver 6-pt harnesses from Safecraft including their harness bar. They use a round bar which is what most racing organizations recommend or require.

Donny, do you know they make a fire suppression system specific for the GT? Many of us have it installed.

We talked about that but I am out of time on race prep. Going with floor/seat mount for now and will upgrade later. I appreciate your experienced advice.:thumbsup

That's exactly what I did. Ready to rock and roll. I am open to any GT suggestions you have. :thumbsup

In our cars with the 6 pt harness installed, the submarine and lap belts attach to the seat belt brackets. This past year I was informed by our local Porsche club that because my seats did not allow a proper submarine belt attachment, I could not use my harness. I refuse to put different seats in my GT, and, as my track experience has improved, I can no longer comfortably just use my factory seat belts...I can't stay in my seat with hard cornering. So, no club events with the Porsche club. Have not seen this with other car clubs yet. Have you all encountered any similar problems? Could this be a trend? Solutions?

Put on a over size Jock Strap and attach it to your lap belt.:rofl

This will keep your balls in place which is a must when driving as fast you are:thumbsup

Nirvana, I don't quite understand how your belts are attached. Porsche club in St. Louis has no problem with mine. I have the SafeCraft 6-point with the Brey-Krauss hook-ins and Wally's bar. What's different about yours?

Nirvana, I'm running the same set up as fjpikul and while I've not run in a Porsche club event, I have never had any issues with my set up whatsoever...most the groups are impressed with the clean and effective approach!

Our local Porsche Club, Carolinas Region, has said that to pass tech, the new PCA restraint standards starting for the March 2008 DE events require that 5 or 6pt harnesses only be used with seats designed to accomodate 5 or 6 pt harnesses. 4pt harnesses are not allowed. Shoulder harnesses are ok in our GT...but not the submarine belt attachment. And I am using what you guys are using...Brey-Krauss mounts in the seat belt bracket for both lap and submarine belts (I have the fire extinguisher from Safecraft and all the goodies). I am a member of our local Porsche club and have attended several meetings. When I first heard about these changes, I immediately contacted our local reps, drove my car to the meeting, and showed them my set-up. And the answer was "no". Have not encountered any other problems with the local Audi or Ferrari clubs...but it did worry me.
Unfortunately, I found out about this issue AFTER I joined the local club last year. Needless to say, I did not go to any events last year...'cause I am not going on a road coarse with these slippery seats and the factory seat belt!

This is not just a regional issue with PCA.
"If the participant chooses to install a 5/6 point driving harness, several changes to the automobile must be made to create a safe occupant restraint system. Harnesses must include an antisubmarine strap and be mounted in an approved manner consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions. The Harness system must be used in conjunction with a seat which has the supplied routing holes for the shoulder and anti-submarine belts."

Here is the link that I got this from..
http://www.pnwr.org/Track/driver_ed/rules.asp

but I found it on other PCA region sites as well. Again, if you are mounting the harness like most of us here are (again correct me if I am wrong?) the problem is the submarine belt attachment and the lack of "holes" in our seat for this attachment.

Nirvana, while I can't guarantee that you'll pass, run the sub belts under the seat and have them exit on the front edge of the seat. Then bring them back and hook to your harness. Might wear on your leather a little. The only thing they want in St. Louis is receipt of fresh brake fluid.

Cyclenirvana - obviously that PCA chapter is not for you. There are many open tracks groups that will let you drive with them. Not every rule is based on fact. It's no use arguing. It's their loss!

Have fun on the track,
Ed

My Safecraft 6-pt harness & stock seat is accepted everywhere I've been in CA & NV.

Problem with this is - the sub belts (at least those from Simpson) aren't that long....

The SafeCraft belts are that long. When I first set up my belts, this is how I did it, rather than sitting them as Ed Simms suggested. Wally set me straight and helped me adjust everything properly in Vegas.

You are right Ed. This is the reason I have not had a track session with the PCA. Otherwise, our set-up appears fine.
Thanks!
