Just saw a full page ad in an obscure magazine called incentive. It shows a red/white stipe GT on a winding canyon road. very well done! Ad is for Gateway Canyon resort. Not familiar with them. Went to website, and car appears in small pics all over the site. Here is one of the links: http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/gateway-auto-museum.aspx

Anyone been to the gateway canyons car museum?

Gateway Canyons Resort is owned by John Hendricks (Discovery Channels). The museum houses his collection, the spotlight is the Olds F88 that he bought at Barrett Jackson. The cars on the ad were his, but I don't think he has them any more. My wife and I went to the hotel/museum in October 2008. I've stayed at the restort a couple of other times since. It used to be a steal but then he turned it over to the management company that does big resorts and they upped the rates. It's still a good place to go though.

The cars were part of a "package" you could get - something like $10K got you lodging and a week of driving any or all of the cars in the collection:

Ford GT
Ferrari 360
Aston Martin DB9
Corvette Z06

(There were two of each). I was told when I inquired about the Red GTs that he had sold one of each and kept the other one(s). The "package" was retired in 2009 or so.

It's an interesting Rally story about the cars and the environment of the valley.

I think posted a bunch of pictures of them here at some point.

If you're looking to go I can tell you the hotel and restaurant are world class, the museum will take you all day to go through, and the little town of Gateway has all kinds of outdoor things to do. Here's a picture of the cars in front of the resort:

Here's a pic of the Olds F88 (you can probably figure out from the link how to get to the rest of the album.)

I suggested that this would be a good place to have a Rally. Gateway is about a 90 minute drive from Grand Junction and a short drive to Telluride. The area has tons of windy mountain roads with some open stretches.

Isn't Gateway where they had the simi annual dynamite shoot to benefit the Volunteer Fire Department? They had targets out to 850 yds that were pop cans filled with blasting material that would go up in a big way if you hit them. I went years ago before the museum was built but remember being told about Hendricks buying up huge plots of land in the area. The roads are great with lots of elevation changes and curves, fun to drive.

I don't know about the blowing things up thing but it sure sounds like a good enough reason to have a rally there. Shooters can bring their weapons :)
