Radar Detector hook-up

Has anyone successfully hooked up a Radar Detector to the gt's rear view mirror? I recall reading something about it here a while back. There are several "ports" on the back of the mirror that I'm assuming may be candidates....however, I'm wondering if it is as simple as testing for the "pwr key-on" port and if so , what type of terminals are req'd to facilitate the hook-up? Does someone make an adapter for this ? In the event that the mirror is a no-go, what is the best pwr-source to hard wire to in order to eliminate the cig lighter cord? Any advice would be much appreciated !:biggrin

There is an old thread, very nice and complete, under the heading of Valentine 1. Search can be your friend.

Thanks guys......guess I could've / should've gone the search route first off!

The aluminum mount and cord wired to mirror is a nice combination.

I suction cup my V1 above the mirror where it is totally out of the way. I have it plugged into the mirror power. Shadowman can make the V1 to GT harness.

I have mine mounted just like Ed's. I mentioned the bracket to Ed and he correctly pointed out it would obscure the road view.

Shadowman you still have these harnesses? If so I'm in.

Does it block your vision?

Not at all.

Had the invisacord, looked like crap! The insulated yellow pin connector stands out like a sore thumb. I did what Ed and Black Ice did, called Shadowman and had it done properly. Now it's practically invisible to someone outside the car as it's tucked up above the mirror and the power cable is nicely integrated but still easy to swap between cars.

Sounds like you just need a yellow GT to solve you color coordination needs.

I had it mounted below the mirror with a similar hard mount but it blocked some of my vision & could be seen by everyone else. Above the mirror is the stealth position. One could easily fab a hard mount for above the mirror. The stock suction cup is fine for me.

PS I've had my V1 for 5 years. I've sent it back to Valentine twice for updates. You never have to buy a new one as Valentine offers upgrades for a decent price & very fast turnaround. Great company & great product.

That is a great idea! Wonder if the wife would go for it...

What do you guys think of this article? He seems to prefer the Escort over the Valentine 1. http://www.radardetector.org/pdf/BuyersGuide.pdf
