I have 12K miles and replaced the rears at 8K. I do not track my car nor do burn-outs. I prefer a highway tire like a Michelin for longetivity. Why doesn't Michelin or another manufacturer make a tire that will fit the Ford GT or do they? Track is not an issue with me. A really great highway tire with longevity is.

Then I think the stock tire are your best bet, unless you are open to new wheels in a different size.

Didn't Kirby get PS2's in 18" and 19" from a special order done by an Atlanta dealer?

You can get the correct width in 18s and 19s but sidewall is the issue.

I looooooooove the PS2's. 345/30ZR19 and 245/40ZR18. The 30 sidewall provides a very noticeable increase in acceleration over the stock 40. They stick very well, and at 6,000 non-track miles, they have already exceeded my expectations for longevity and they look closer to "new" than "worn out" :thumbsup :cheers

What 6K miles? Did you drive to California and back? Kirby, 1500 miles on 4 tires does not equal 6000 miles.

Frank, it's Southern math. Actually, the X1 logs more miles than my daily driver, because my priorities are in the proper order...pleasure, pleasure, pleasure, everything else. :cheers

GT tire sizes

Prowler - Ford wanted a retro look so they went with a taller rear tire. This limits your options greatly if you want different tires on the OEM wheels. Of course the trend today is big wheels with low profile rubber. I love the look of the big rubber! Search some of the tire/wheel threads in the Forum history. Lots of great info there.

By my calculations, this combo increases the rake by just over 1". Did you lower the front to compensate?

Fronts are Dunlop Sport 9000 255/45/18, GREAT GRIP, NO PLOWING AS W/Goodlucker's!

Rears are Hoosiers A6 315/40/19

ALL Z rated!

All ready for the next mod this month.

Hoosiers were $165 ea on Hoosiers site - discount tire section!

BTW - taking her down 1" in front 5/8 in back with TA's (thanks Alex) also!

I recently went P-zero Corsa Systems on my stock rims. I dislike the side wall look enough to now have ordered some HRE's with PS2's. The Corsa will be for the track. In terms of grip improvement the Corsas are night and day from the stock Goodyears...

I can't find the discount section on Hoosier's site. Can you provide a link?

Thanks.

Mike

3. then begin shopping

but I don't see the A6's for the FGT anymore... We must have bought them all :wink

Thanks (for the link, not for buying them all)

You guys (or as we say in Texas Y'ALL) are great! Thanks for all the tire info. I have pretty much come to a conclusion and if a couple of you who have bought these sets please reply. I am ready to buy before Rally III. I think I will go with the Michelins on factory rims if that seems feasible to you. Please reply with a price and size for a set. The sidewall size is different but will it raise or lower the car? I don't particularly want it any lower than stock. And the looks factor....how "odd" will it appear compared to the Goodyears. Option two is stick with the "disposable" GY factory tires. They are one thousand a set (4) mounted but the rears only go 8K miles and the fronts go 16K. THANKS!!!!!!

There are no great choices by any company for rear tires on the stock rims. If you don't mind running 345x35x19 on a the stock rims, but the stock rims are a little too narrow for the best fit. On the front there are a lot of good choices.

I don't think Kirby's car with the Michelins looks odd at all, but I can't say the same for him. He seems quite pleased with them.

You're mixing Dunlops street tires w/ DOT slicks??? Are you mad in NC?

Prowler you're getting 8k miles out of the back GY tires? :eek:eek:eek:eek Best I've done/seen is about 4500. But lets see how many ItsonlyMoney gets out of his since he's a hyper miler. :bored
