Overnight Trip - What/Where to Store?

Hey Guys,

I'm taking my wife on the Nov 18th Cruise this Saturday, and want to hear tips about where to store stuff. Both seats will be occupied.

I was thinking of squeezing stuff behind the seats, and on the floor in front of the passenger seat.

What do you recommend for the front luggage compartment? I hear it gets hot - but how hot? I assume clothes are okay, or will they get damaged...

Any other travel tips?

Thanks! Randy

Small duffel in front trunk (use your car cover bag as an example), small duffel on the front floor between wife's legs, can put clothes bag between back of seat and firewall. I bought a cheap $3.00 suction cup hook at Walgreen's and stuck it to the back window. The hook unfortunately hangs too low to put any hangers on, but it is great for a jacket and hat/cap. Mad in NC had some ideas too. Trunk gets awfully warm, no liquids or things you don't want wrinkled.

This is helpful. Thanks. I will either put my worn clothes in the front trunk or Fed Ex them back. Clothes bag behind the seat, that is a good idea. I like the suction cup too - too bad the height isn't enough for a dress shirt - then this could be a do anything vehicle.

Actually, the suction cup would hold a dress shirt. I tried a few shirts and a blue blazer and that was too much. If your wife is small, her clothes might fit very well. My most favorite other option, send the wife by plane. Alone driving time - Priceless!

Too bad there is no passenger seat delete option.

I drove out the rally with a buddy and we found you could pack more in the trunk if you got rid of the bags and just stacked your stuff in there. We put trash bags on top and when we got to the Ritz we just dropped everything into trash bags and walked in.

You can get a few more things behind the passenger seat if you remove the child latch system. I spent some time in the passenger seat on the drive out and noted that the foot well is not as deep as the drivers. So if passenger is
tall than that seat may be all the way back.

Don't place anything in the nose compartment that will melt or has heat issues. It gets very hot.

In the back of the car just below the clam shell at the extreme rear corners there is approximately one square foot of plastic with nothing underneath it. You could temporarily pull them out for your trip and stick 2 small bags in each corner. I am planning at converting them into storage for towels, detail spray etc.

I also picked up some new luggage for my wife for next May's trip to Indy with you GT guys. They are brown paper shopping bags with handles. She said "What the hell is this?" She didn't think it was funny.

That is classic. I wonder how my wife will react. The brown paper bag is like Louis Vitton compared to the plastic trash bag option. She should be happy.

Syco,
On Boost had a neat mod for the Rally. He and his wife had temporary hooks-think he said he picked them up at Walmart-on the back of the 2 seats to hang clothes on. Still had room to use the floor space behind the seats.

What I do is I use the bag for the cover (that I never take)as it has a perfect fit in the fronttrunk, and looks cooler than trashbags...sort of a free included luggage set !

Syco, I found there is quite a bit of room behind the seats for hanging clothes, especially since my wife is a short 5'4''. We've done a two-nighter with duffel in trunk and another between her feet. Finally, I found a way to have her not pack so much #%^*&()!#! luggage :lol
Look forward to meeting you tomorrow.

I am going to do that. The cover was still in the plastic factory bag, unopened. I hadn't realized that the cover had it's own "duffle bag" - Thanks for all the tips! See some of you tomorrow morning for the Temecula Cruise...

Yes, my 5'4" wife is wondering the same thing...Where is she going to put her outlet shopping...Thank god I sold the Chevy Tahoe a couple years ago. It hauled a lot of stuff...

Invite some friends to go in their own car. Trade them rides in the GT if they will carry your luggage in their car. Worked for me! :biggrin

Yet another reason to install a trailer hitch (its very simple) even if you are not planning on towing. I have used a "bicycle carrier" on a hitch in the past both to carry a waterproof duffle as well as a bicycle. You could actually go a bit overboard with a HD Tour Pack mounted on the bicycle pole and painted to match
