The latest I hear is VW is trying to take control of Proton, thereby capturing Lotus in the deal and hope to make an announcement early part of March 2007. New cars in the pipeline is a 2+2 due in 2008 using a V6 Toyota engine and an Esprit has been pushed back to 2009 and the likelihood of a BMW engine is slight, as they are not getting enough power out of it, and they are turning to Toyota for the new V10 engine, but, if VW take control they might have to source an engine within the VW group even possibly the Lambo. engine.

Yeah Guys, Yes .. it is true ... I have a hot rod Lotus Elise (lighter than the exige and same engine). Nothing short of a full prep race car on slicks handles like this car in stock form. Put a few ohlins and a brace or two on it and it is almost unholy:lol .

From my dealings with Lotus and what "little birds" told me. The next esprit should be a "interesting" car. The BMW engine looks to be the one for the car. Expect some type of forced induction.

As for Proton and VW ... well, I will believe it when I see it. VW owns Lambo now and has several cars coming out that they have invested billions into. Could they come in and help out Proton in their market? Sure, but they will make their money on the low dollar cars for the asian markets.

Lotus cars would be a windfall for any company that could get its hands upon it but, they will have to bring a budget to develop cars in that segment. VW does not seem to be the party for that.

Now as for the car. If it is a logical step off the last car and brings into play what the ellse/exige is .... all I can say is WOW! :banana Sign me up.

The 2004 Esprit is a fairly good car ... too bad they do not hold their value.:ack But Lotus never has. Go figure.

Nope, not at 255lbs, still got to loose another 35lbs. Tried to squeeze into a Winston Cup car today, not a pretty site at all... damn ugly in fact:thumbsdow
