Odyssey battery

Fricking Viper battery went kaput today. So I went online to Odyssey to find what battery they recommended and while I was there I decided to look up the GT. They didn't have a match the last time I looked (4 months ago), but this time they showed a direct fit. The show a 25-PC1400T to be a direct fit. Just FYI for anyone wanting to change to an Odyssey battery.

I have 25-PC1400T in both my GTs. THE best battery choice.....GO BLU

I used Odyssey batteries in the GT and the Viper, no more drama.

What is the advantage of this battery over the original?

Better???

Yeah, I always thought Optima Batteries (OE in the GT) were the best. This battery is better? How so? I like the good stuff!

I had various problems with Optima batteries in my boats and switched to Odyssey, so when the car batteries started to act up I changed brands. PC1500 in the Viper, PC1400 in the GT. www.batterymart.com

Make sure it's the 25 PC1400 and not the 35 PC1400 as the terminals are switched.

Erratic voltage.

Is it possible that the Optima battery, when it gets older, is causing the failures of all the gauges in our cars??

With 4 GTs I can testify to my experience....the first sign of a battery going is the freaky gauges.

It did with my 06, at times the speedo and other gauges would not work. The tach was usually fine, several times the check engine light would come on, promting a immediate stop at the local Ford dealership, of course no problems were ever found. I had alternator output verified at a local exotic/classic auto service shop. After the battery change, no issues.

Is the odyssey wet or dry? I dont want any acid problems. If dry it would be worth a try but my optima seems still good at 4 years. I need to do a load test and be sure.

Battery life limits.

Gentlemen,

If this is the case it would be much cheaper to swap the battery out every 36 months or so than to be replacing gauges at $500+ labor. Shadowman, Rich, Kip, or ???.....your thoughts on this? I still have my original battery in my car and just spent $700 to replace my fuel gauge.

Batteries are like tires and wiper blades, they wear out, buy news ones. A weak battery may cause gauge malfunctions, but I doubt that it would significantly contribute to gauge failure. I find the stock Optima battery fine if you keep it on a trickle charger. Mine is 4 years old and still working. I will throw it out at the 1st sign weakness or 6 years whichever comes 1st and probably get another Optima.

I wish I had this info two months ago. I bought my "replacement" Midnight Blue and found that it had a replacement Interstate battery that didn't even fit! I bought the Optima and would have purchased this one had I known that it was available. Oh well...

What gauges act up:

-Tach
-Speedo
-Oil Pressure

Seems like Volts should?

-Volts

-Gas?

I've had at least 6 Optima batteries over the years. I've had nothing but bad luck with them, with a max of 2 years service. If they weren't on a trickle charger they were being driven everyday. As you know, the heat of Texas can be bad on batteries. I'm willing to try the Odyssey battery since I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I have the Battery Tender Plus charger with Kendall's fixed connection above the splitter (female side :biggrin), can it be safely used with the Odyssey battery ?

Here's a blurb from their website:

Are these a gel cell? What’s the difference?
A. No, the ODYSSEY battery is NOT a gel cell. It is an absorbed electrolyte type battery, meaning that there is no free acid inside the battery; all of the acid is kept absorbed in the glass mat separators. These separators serve to keep the positive and negative plates apart.

The key difference between the gel cell and the absorbed glass mat (AGM) cell lies in the fact that in the AGM cell all of the electrolyte is in the separator, whereas in the gel cell the acid is within the cells in a gel form. In fact, if the ODYSSEY battery were to split open, there would be no acid spillage!
