Nitrous project lots and lots of pic

:biggrinhttp://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12239

as some of you know my friend and I have been working on a nitrous project for the last couple of months and although not complete(no project on a car ever is) it is pretty close. some saw the nitrous setup up close at the rally.Im adding some pictures to show the new additions to the previous nitrous set up. you can use the link above to go back and see the original setup.

the problem with the old set up was it was rushed to make the deadline for the rally so it needed to be modified, one of my requirement for the new set up was to wire everything so later it could be removed without leaving a trace that it ever existed. so no factory wires were spliced into and no factory harness was disturbed. everything is 100% reversable for you purists.

the old set up lacked an automatic bottle opener, which could be a problem if you are driving and need to open the bottle, because Torrie just accused you of not making enough power:biggrin so we added a bottle opener.

the second thing was when you open the bottle for the first time there may be trapped air in the line and once the nitrous is activated it takes a few seconds for it to reach the nozzle, you can see why this could be a big problem:lol. so we added a purge system to allow the line to fill up with nitrous before it is activated.

those were the major changes to the set up but they complicated the whole build as we had to fabricated more wiring harnesses and get switches to activate the different systems. so here are some pictures.

I started to think about the switch placement for the opener and the purge and decided that shadowmans(kip ewing's) cubby was a good place to get started( I wanted one of those anyway the switches was just an excuse to get it):biggrin

so I got the cubby and I placed the two switches in the cubby, these pitures show the templated I made to place the switches. then I had to make harnessed for the switches, so that once they are in the cubby the harness can be seperated as to allow the center consule to be removed.

this is the opener being prepared to get its harness so it can be removed from the system easily

this is the power wire for opener and the solinoid, we took this striaght off the battery and ran it under the car along with the nitrous line

this was one of the ground wires that we split to get two for the relays and the switches

next was to mount both solenoids and relay and wire them up, as before I used the bracket provided by shadowman(thank you Bill) and mounted both to it and wired it up, this whole assembly is wired to a four pin connector that can be seperated and removed very easily. it take one connector and two throttle body bolts to take this whole assembly off.

this what the swicthes look like from under the cubby the other pictures are of the wiring harness for both the opener and the purge, and we rewired the nitrous activation switch to get its own connector

so that bring me to the purge line, we ran it under the air box and it purges through the bottom screw hole for the license plate

Now Soroush it is/was one thing for me to ship you care packages full of wire sheathing, Deustch connectors, etc. and yet it was up to you to create an integrated system; you did a wonderful job

I am proud of the way you approached the project and even more so that you stayed focused on both the quality of integration and the mechanical results.

I see another Shadowman being created behind the scenes

All the best

Beautiful East Texas
Very nice... two question though.

1. Isn't the N2O bottle gonna' get a little warm there? (maybe warm enough to pop the safety valve on a full bottle)

2. What kind of exhaust pipe is that one?

1. No need for a blanket heater.
2. Looks like an Accufab, or could be a Stillens. Both are Y pipes.

Yeah, bottle pressure shouldn't be an issue....

Pipe assy. looks better than most others I've seen of similar designs, but I just don't recall seeing one that is canted so far forward. Appears to be chrome or nickle plated too.... very nice.
