NHRA Winter Nationals - Pomona California 2-15-13

Went to the Drag Races yesterday, an amazing event! Some images below. Tried iPhone video of the start, but the percussion from the machines shut down the iPhone every time! The entire stadium shook, Schumacher, 3.75 seconds, 1000 feet, 328.75 plus change! Amazing, the fastest and loudest event I have ever attended, hands down excitement.

Could this be Snowbird SteveA down for the winter months from Idaho??? Anyone recognize this guy?

I usually go to this event each year, but in Dallas visiting my daughter at SMU.

Yeah, and I was there today....if you have never seen the nitro cars run, Top Fuel or Funny Car, 8000 hp, DO IT SOON! It's the one sport that can not be done justice on TV......it is stunning in person.....all five of your senses will be involved......

From 1965 to 1987, I worked about 1.5 miles from the Pomona dragstrip at the LA County Fairgrounds where the WinterNationals are held each year. At that distance, the loudness of the event was just bearable. My home in Diamond Bar was 6 miles away, and each pass on the strip was easily discernable over and above the general noise from the I-10 and CA-57 freeways that were in between.
