New Fuel Gauge Problem

I filled her up today after cruising Laguna Beach and noticed after the fill-up that the fuel gauage was still showing empty. The "check gauge" light remained lited for a minute or so and then the needle of the feul gauge started moving up slowly, very slowy. After 15 minutes, it is finally showing a full tank. Do I have super thick gasoline in my tank or what? Has this happen to you?

Nope.
But, there was mention on another thread of similar slow responses of this or that guage. If I remember right, two diff causes were quoted: Low battery (which you obviously must not have...you were crusin' all day) or a bad guage, or guage with a bad ground. (I guess that'd be THREE.)

Same thing happened to me. Turned the car off and then back on and it went right to full. Not sure what causes this.

When I picked my car up from the dealer (new) he put a 50amp quick charge on the battery. This cooked the battery but it still putt out enough cranking amps to turn the motor over, but the electrical system was only putting out around 10 Volts. This played hell with my fuel gauge, same symptoms you discribed . The dealer even went so far as to open the tank and try to replace the sending unit. Once the battery was replaced (after boiling/spewing acid:bored ) the fuel gauge issue went away.

Happened to me too. I hadn't driven the car in two weeks and after I pumped gas, it took forever to hit full.

Mine has done this also. Try turning the key OFF and then turn it back ON again and see if that makes it "snap" to the correct reading. Remember, this car is American made.

What was bad was that I saw a Carrera GT drove by when I was just about done filling up. I wanted to chase after the CGT but then saw the empty gauge and started thinking back to see if the pump was pumping gasoline in the tank or not. That CGT got away easy.:lol .....

That's funny, because I went on a drive today with my wife and we filled up in Laguna Niguel. The same thing happened to us today not 6 miles away! My wife and I noticed that the fuel gauge didn't get to the "full" mark till after another 15 minutes if driving. Seems fine now. Maybe one of the team members knows the reason why it does this.

Mine does this - exactly the same.... I have my GT on a new battery with a deep cycle trickle fitted, so the battery is in perfect condition. It's a little frustrating.

Shame that Porsche got away - he got lucky!

Just happened to me this week also!!!

Happened to me also - could be an issue with overfilling the gas tank.

I stop as soon as the handle clicks. I never overfill the tank. I don't think that's it. If I remember right, the one time I filled it to 3/4 tank, stopping before the "click", it still did the same thing.

On my last fill, I remember thinking the fill stopped early, so I did pull the pump filler handle a couple extra times. That may have done it in my case. Thanks. I will keep an eye on it and remember my fill experiences also.
