Well, I pulled the trigger on a Blue/White GT500 yesterday. I am going to miss my GT, so I had to get the closest thing to her while I recover. So my question is, what are the must have mods to do on this car.

The first thing I want to do is an exhaust. I want loud, deep, and no drone.:biggrin What are you guys doing for suspension? I was looking at some KW coilovers. Since I am new to the GT500, what pointers can you guys give me.

Under advisement from Florida Chris, I got the Corsa exhuast, axle-back system only, but it sounds great with absolutely no drone. Look into Ground-Control.com for nice, custom-set-up coil overs, and look into a tune and intake, as a tune alone can bring you up to 50 horsepower. I am looking for a second White with blue stripe GT500 to add to the stable. Enjoy the car, it is a great daily driver, very comfortable and user-friendly!!

Hey Rocman,
Glad you purchased a GT500..you are going to love it, I am sure. I purchase a red/white stripe in Sept 06, and did nothing for a while until I did a little bit of research. My Ford Dealer's chief mechanic is a wiz with FGT's and Shelbys. He reccomended a Steeda suspension package, including a Steeda exhaust. I was fortunate to drive one of the many that he converted at the dealership. The car was awsum to say the least. The suspension package lowered the car into a great stance, like it should of been done by Ford. I did notice that on my GT-H, the suspension was already done by Shelby, almost the same way, but with all Ford components. The whole package retail, including exhaust was somewhere around $3500.00, plus labor. It is not that hard to install. I can tell you that the car goes around corners much better, and at 150MPH it is very stable. I had a tune done, and short of my FGT's power, this car is it. It is doing 489WHP with just a tune. The car is FAST. If your considering this I can give you the phone number to the Ford Mechanic and (really nice guy) he will give you the info on what was exactly installed. PM me if you need.

Good luck with your awsum ride.

Gino

Good info. Thanks guys. I eventually plan on a KB, so I don't know if I want to do a tune since it would be thrown out anyway.
Is the KB 2.8 the way to go, or is there something better?
Does anyone have any experience with the KW coilovers?

Tim,
How does the Corsa sound. I have always known them for more of a high pitched sound instead of a deep rumble. The sound I am looking for is more like the GT ford racing header, but a tad quieter.:wink

The Corsa sounds nice and deep, not high pitched, but compared to a full-on system, it is quite a bit quieter. No loud resonance at all at cruising speed, but definitely more low-rumble. Hope that helps!

Hi ROCKMAN,

I would definately go with Steeda! I was at Camp Steeda at Sebring a few weeks ago and experienced how good their products really are. I drove their Q 335 Mustang with 350 hp and "Smoked" Shelby GT 500's and Roush Stage 3 cars around their 3.7 mile track all day. It was all due to the suspension products that they have to offer.

They have a Steeda engine upgrade for the GT 500 that includes a smaller pully, cold air kit and sct tune that bumps the HP from 500 to 640. Their lower controll arms also get rid of the wheel hop in GT 500's.

Check out Motortrend.com for features on Steeda, I am was filmed driving the Grabber Orange Q 335 there.

Roc-

I had a Steeda exhaust on my GT500 for about a week. The drone was horrible at typical cruising revs (1800-2200 rpm). Drive your car around town and see how often you are in this rpm range. As Tim wrote, I switched to the Corsa and have been very pleased. Nice V8 sounds and you can listen to the radio unless you are "on it".

I have the VMP tune (one of our site sponsors) in my car and would definitely recommend it. Lots of GT500 guys run his software. Give Jason a call and discuss the tune with him. He's a great guy.

The GT500 is my daily driver. You are going to love it.

Is the Steeda exhaust made by Bassani? If so, I may want to rethink things.
This is the system I thought I wanted to get.

I believe the Steeda exhaust is made by Borla. I only had the Steeda cat back pipes my car. The Steeda cat back mufflers and tips did not look like the Bassani photo you posted. The Steeda tips were not rolled like your photo.

The KB is the way to go. KB has a car that does 8xxrwhp on race gas so 7xx shouldnt be out of the question for pump gas.

I got to take the GT to MMP this week. I'll talk to Jack about it and see what we can agree on. I want to get around 700-800RWHP from this bad boy.:biggrin

I gotta say, mods for the Shelby are a tad more reasonable than the GT.:rofl
