Has anybody here had / have an SLS AMG? I bid on one today about 2 hours from me, but didn't win. I've never even sat in one, but from everything I've read and watched ... well, I bid. Just curious about your experiences and thoughts on them.

There is a member here with a recently acquired SLS Black Series. I'll let him chime in if he chooses.

I test drove one, and was local "eyes" for a different member quite a few years ago (car was in MA, he was in CA). For the brief drive, the car was nice. Funny story, gent was buying for his wife, who was not very tall. I had my then ~10 year old with us, and he was the same height. Our son confirmed that she could reach the pedals, and drive the car (I text him the pix of our kido in the seat). Guy bought the car.

Can reach the pedals? Check.

Can reach the door to close it? Uh oh. Might need the optional pull strap.

Thanks for the reply. "The car was nice" doesn't sound as raving as some. And that's the kind of honest reply I'm looking for. If it's only 'good', so be it.

I drove one once when they were new. Same grunt from V8 as a 05/06 FGT. It’s a German front/mid engined muscle car. Just didn’t do anything for me styling wise. Hard to like it if you own a FGT.

Yeah, I suppose I don't actually love it, or I would've kept bidding even tho I think it went too high. Once I've decided I absolutely gotta have something, my wallet is in trouble.

Although, part of it was that they made a bunch of them, so while the auction car was super nice, there will be others. Maybe not as close, but meh, I can live without it.

Tks 🍻

I had a 2011 model year in similar color pattern that I sold last fall. Put 20,000 miles on it since buying new in 2010.
Rarely used the B&O stereo option due to the great sound from the 6.2L na engine especially the exhaust burble when downshifting. While the styling falls well short of the 05-06 GT it is a better daily driver given its better visibility and features like nav, backup camera, and phone interface. The coupe is the best model to get given the gullwing doors. Desirable options are the ceramic brakes and the carbon fiber engine compartment covers. The SLS has the same Getrag DCT as the NGT and replacement is not uncommon after 20,000 miles which is a $25,000+ expense.
Values are climbing given it was one of the last large displacement na motors available in a MB and the Gullwing doors always draw a crowd. Unlike Ford MB also has very good parts availability for older models.

We have had ours for a few years now.
Very comfortable to drive, sounds great, and those doors!

Amazing engine. Amazing doors. Just cannot get excited about the rest of it.

One of the few cars that are available as both fixed roof and convertible that I find the convertible much more appealing. The doors are cool but the way the roofline integrates with the rear 1/3 of the car misses the mark.

I had one with a blower and long tubes on it. What a beast. I miss it.

I've been looking for one on and off for a while. I'm back looking for a coupe now.

The Black series is the SLS on steroids, and the most collectible variant if you can obtain one.
Great cars. Only 300ish worldwide, and 130 came to US. Many have since been exported, as very popular over seas.
