Hey all! I searched the topic and didn't see a thread on upgrading to the Mcintosh option. Feel free to send a link if I missed it...

Anyway, I don't have the Mcintosh option and was considering the upgrade. Would I be able to swap the head unit and door speakers and skip the subwoofer?

Thanks!

No. It needs the amp back by the woofer. Many upgrades from best buy

If you mean switch the base radio to the McIntosh I wouldn't bother. It's really not much of an improvement, IMO ... even with the sub. If I was gonna bother, I'd def go with an aftermarket head unit, amp, speakers, and sub if you can find a place you're willing to give up.

I suppose that doesn't actually answer your question, so: Every stereo / amp I've dealt with you can use it with 1 or more of the speaker outputs not being used, so I'd "guess" the McIntosh is the same. Maybe someone else here will know for sure.

Are you saying the McIntosh won't actually operate if the sub is disconnected?

That is my belief

But even if it would, where you gonna find one ? It was a fgt unique and I can't remember the last one I saw for sale. Parts cars have disappeared...

I find that you don’t need the Mac upgrade. The best music is that wonderful roar behind your back.
I actually took mine out because I prefer to have the storage space in the middle. Your not missing anything!

I like tunes. The most impressive thing about that mc was it could play comfortably numb at full volume with no speaker overdrive flutter. The village of hygiene remember it for a long time

Good luck trying to find the components. Better off doing s whole new system with Bluetooth and camera hookups and gps Double DIN dash replacements have been available in the past, but no one has brought up this topic for a while.

Mac cars have tweeters in the doors whereas non-Mac cars do not.

I relocated the sub, liked it so much, I added another sub and amp.

As with everything else, there will be a weak link somewhere else….it was the chinesium crossover.

I scoured the net and found a set of Made in New York McIntosh mid range & tweeter and crossovers. Made a HUGE improvement.

you can pull the radio and plug in an ipod connector, the jacks are there already, at least that is one upgrade that is easy

I can attest to the joys of having the double Din
Apple car play and a back up camera

If you’re interested in seat covers do a search. I made a post on someone who will make them for us.
