Lifting my GT?

I've decided to purchase a two post lift for my garage. One of the cars that will be on it will be my GT. Just wondering what trick little items I need to successfully pick the car up without damaging the under-pinnings. :confused

Doesn't GTsaver have some special fixtures available for this purpose? What's the story? Somebody fill me in on the details please.

Yeah, Jay (analogdesigner) sells the jack pads. GTsaver.com.
 
Most lift arms on a two post will not work with the Gt and the optional extentions are iffy. Make sure that it will work. And positioning it, at the lift points is very difficult because of the ground clearence
 
Low ground clearance on a lift is easy to resolve. Use wood planks. Drive car onto planks with sufficient height to get lift arm underneath. Done all the time.

Is this lift for storage of your GT. I recently purchased a 4 post lift for storage (much safer) forom Eagle Lifts (American Made) $2100. Series #7,000. Best purchase I have ever made. By Far.

I too have a 4 post lift.
And also, one of the best accessories ever purchase for automobiles.
Why would you want a 2 post lift vrs 4 post?
Safer & more versatile.
Just curious.
 
I had a two post lift in my previous house (now my ex has a two post lift, but I got the cars :biggrin ) I just installed a 4 post in my rented house, 1- because it is rented and I didn't have to worry about holes in the floor, and 2- it accomodate the GT much better. I can drive right on. I agree, I think the 4 post lift is more versital, safer and easier to use.

Four posts all the way. You didn't by a vet did you? So don't buy the 2 post!!! :rofl

How would you lift the wheels off the ramps or get access to the under side of the car with the platform in the way. Good for parking but bad for service.

A friend of mine purchased a 4 post lift that actually has a second lift that raises the car after it's raised up on the lift so you can change the wheels/tires while up on the lift. I can't remember the name but will find out if anyone is interested.
 
Thanks Awsum, but I was responding to Centerpunch's one post parking lift. I know then rolling jacks or a jack bridge can be used on a 4 post lift.

Based on my measurements, the foot print of the 4 post lift takes up too much room in my garage... the two post unit would be much more "space friendly" in my application.

I'm thinking to use the two poster with the GT, it would require some 2x12 spacer blocks to gain enough clearance to swing the arms under the car... yea, sounds like a real pain to deal with, but fortunately, the GT would not be on the lift too much... it's mainly for my other two cars.

And what about using it for storage? one car on the lift and the other under it... any thoughts?

That works well, just be sure you have enough height in your garage to get the stored car up high enough so as to get the one on the bottom in and clear of the one above.
Remember the garage door location when it is open [this will take height room out of your garage] thus lowering the working height of you garage.
Also, it becomes a pain to move things around when you want to run the stored car.

I have found that when I put one up, I tend to avoid driving it as much as I normally would due to the hassle factor.

This is what goes on top.
My other SVT powered machine.
Runs a Ford 4.6L DOHC with a Kenne Bell twin screw super charger.
Puts down 385 hp at the wheels.
Weighs only 2570 lbs. so power to weight ratio is pretty good.
Does 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds.
Is a fun street rod machine, but has aerodynamics of a brick.
At 140mph the front end wants to lift off the ground due to the cycle fenders catching air.
So its for street fun, leaving the open road stuff for the GT.

With a one or two post lift you must make sure that your concrete was poured with a deep enough base to anchor the lift. Most home garages don't have a deep enought pad to anchor. Besides the height, which I don't have, make sure you clear the opened garage door.

Buy American, the imported lifts have had many issues. Go to the garage forums and see what they have to say.

For the garage door -- a good door company can re-hang the door with a raised double track settup to give you as much clearance as possible. For the opener - check out Wayne Dalton. Its a different settup and mounts where the torsion springs are located, on the header. I'll have to do this to gain the full 9' limited by the support beam in the garage.
