I wanna know who took it and what they were flying that close...

Gee-Tee,

That photo has taken by a fearless EAA photographer at the Sun & Fun Air Show in Lakeland, Florida. The camera plane was a Cessna Turbo 210 with the left hand cargo door taken off. The photographer was in the back shooting through that open door, kneeling on the floor of that plane with straps securing his legs. Totally nuts. The 210 is not stressed or designed for aerobatics and the pilot of that big slug went vertical with me 4 times before he finally got the shot he wanted. I was going as slow as I could go and he was going as fast as he could go. He could only stay vertical for about a second before he had to pull over the top to complete a loop. We had one close call on the first attempt as he pulled over and away from me we came back together at the bottom of the loop and it was really close. When he finally got that picture we were about 25 feet apart.

Super cool Chip. Reminds of the old days of skydiving and the scariest part for me was always the way up with that big openning on the side of the plane as it did its rounds before the jump. I guess the G forces in GT are nothing to you...

Ok guys, since I am in Calabasas area and Vince will be coming down the 23 we think it makes more sense to meet in Thousand Oaks off the 101 around 7:15 to 7:30am. This way we take the 101 striaght up and we can decide on staying on the 101 or switching to the 1. This way the drive will stay scenic yet not too long and exhausting. We can determine which exit off the 101 in Thousand Oaks as long as its North/West of the 23... Stay tuned and feel free to make suggestions... Let us know who is in.

If we go up 101 to Cambria, to Carmel, to Sonoma; it will take about 9-10 hrs.+ with gas/food stops!!! If we go up 5 to Cambria, then 101 etc. to Carmel, to Sonoma; it will take about 8-9 hrs.+ with gas/food stops!!! :thumbsup

Ok lets regroup and decide. How many of us are there and lets take a vote and decide. most impotant thing is we ride together. Obviously the 5all the way is the shortest like 6hr drive but very boring. Maybe good for return home. I beleive the 101 to 1 is the longest but I thought maybe 101 all the way is kind of in beteween and a nice scenery... Kendall suggested 5 up to 166 to 101... sounds like a very scenic run but I think will be extra long. Im bad with directions.

Whos in and what is your preference? Lets finalze a meeting place and I will follow. Vince is coming from Riverside and Im coming from Calabasas. I beleive Mike1 is comming from hermosa Beach and AMB from SD. Who else?

Confirming we are still in. Heading up from Hermosa in the ’05 GT and a spacious ‘11 997.2 Turbo Cab as our support/luggage vehicle.

I’ll take whichever route the group decides on but suggest that we get to Sonoma before the commuter traffic gets crazy in the Bay Area.

Are going to Cambria for lunch? Where do we eat at? Are we going to Carmel to pick up Northern Group? If so on BOTH, it will take ABOUT 12 hrs.+!!! :confused

12 hrs is not Good. You are right AMB. Not sure yet of meeting up with Nothern Group and we can do lunch anywhere. I figure we meet in the morning and decide if we want to make a full day of it and do the 101 to 1 or maybe just take the 101 all the way. It will be cool to ride the Golden Gate in the GTs!!!

Anyways, if all agree we can meet in Thousand Oaks at 7:30am. Just past the 23 fwy Exit N Moorpark RD and turn right and then immediate right on Thousand Oaks Blvd where there is a Shell station. (S.E. Corner of Moorpark and T.O. Blvd). We feul up chat and exchange cell phone numbers and hit the road. I think we make the best of the drive with few short stops and a lunch and enjoy the coast. So far I think we have Vince, AMB, Mike1 and myself plus Mike has a Porsche escorting... So 5 cars?

Commuter traffic headed north from the Bay starts at around 3 pm for Tues traffic. Should be less traffic north on Mon/Labor Day.

I took my son surfing this morning and as we got out of the water, we saw black Anentador followed by a sweet Red/White GT going north on PCH (HWY1) at County line by Neptunes. The Red GT was much louder and just put a smile on our faces. Hopefully they were going to Sonoma... See you guys Tuesday morning.
