Intake hose collapse symptoms on the road?

I was running the GT against some Vipers and on a couple of the runs, when going hard from 2nd to 3rd, the car lost power and wasn't pulling hard at all... I thought I had gone from 2nd to 5th gear...

I was out with the car today and did a 1-2-3 pull and the same thing happened.... as soon as I'm back on the power in 3rd gear, the car is noticeably not pulling hard, although it doesn't do this all the time... this time I verified I was in 3rd gear...

could intake hose be collapsing and restricting air intake, or is my car not making enough power to have this happen (637 rwhp).

thanks!

Did you not get the intake stiffner with the Heffner upgrade?....if not Accufab has them......but good question if that is the cause....

no accufab intake....

The rubber Bellows that connects the airbox to the intake collapses under acceleration. Accufab and others sell a rigid sleeve insert.

Issue

I'm going to go out on a limb with so little info.

Was the engine up to temp?
Does it run fine otherwise, not under boost?
Any check engine light(a intercooler pump won't set the light until IAT2 gets too hot)?
Mods??

Check you intercooler pump.

Or send me a email.

The OEM boost bypass solenoid has been known to be a little hyperactive at times. You can see it on the passenger side of the blower, black 1.25" dia. vacuum canister with a rod connected to it. Make sure nothing is binding. The ECU uses this solenoid to dump boost when a parameter comes in that the ECU isn't happy with - IAT being one of the key ones hence Rich's suggestion to insure that the intercooler pump is functioning. (I dont think it is the bellow collapsing.)

Yeah monitor downstream IAT's and make absolute certain the intercooler pump is working. There are going to be more failures of these as time progresses I know this from experience.

i too am getting boost dump with my whipple. it happens at least once on a 50 mile drive. it only happens under racing conditions (full throttle hyper fast upshifts at max rpm) in the lower gears only. my stock supercharger never did this even with a pulley and tune. on my lightning i have a boost bypass kit installed that effectively blocks the supercharger from dumping boost. does anybody know if anyone makes one of these for GT's? if not is there anyway to modify JDM's boost bypass kit to work with the GT? here is a link to JDM's boost bypass for lightnings > http://www.teamjdm.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=210&cPath=11_4

This is not calibration related. If its occurring its physically happening with the bypass valve.

^^^^ - so Torrie if i am understanding you correctly you are saying that nobody makes a boost bypass kit for the GT like they have made for the Lightning? and if i am understanding you correctly you are saying that a GT dumps boost for different reason than a LIghtning? also if i am understanding you correctly you are saying that the solution to this problem is different that a Lightning?

mass confusion here :confused

i need a solution this problem asap as the Mojave Mile is only 3 weeks out :eek

I bet its physical was the bypass solenoid even installed? It shouldn't be there hence the ECU cannot control boost at all.

my lightning never dumped boost until i increased the boost on the stock supercharger. i installed the JDM boost bypass kit and it has never dumped boost again....

JDM's device physically bypasses the solenoid and has nothing to do with the PCM....

my GT even dumped boost while we were tuning it on the dyno....

i have figured out what the problem is here. the stock solenoid is not designed to work for increased boost. either a new one needs to be made that can interface with increased boost from a whipple or a bypass needs to be built for the GT like JDM made for the Lightning.....

there is nothing wrong with my solenoid. it is doing it's job....

simply replacing the solenoid with another stock one will not solve the problem....

this is another opportunity for a vendor to solve a problem that the GT has....

boost dump and limp mode are not what real race cars are made of....

Torrie - i just got off the phone with whipple and they say that you can turn the solenoid off through tuning.

i need to get this done before i make a pass at the mojave mile.

hopefully Kendall will be there and he can do this for me....

That was already done in your original files. I enabled it then re-disabled it (again as a test to rule out variables) and sent you the revision.

Did the Check Engine light come on ? Was the engine cutting out above 4000 Rpm ? If so I would replace the fuel pump relays. Cheap and easy to do.
