I took my aluminum door frames off on both drivers and passenger sides to get them painted due to having a small scratch on the drivers side. I am very ANAL! They are double taped on with clear thin tape. Does anyone know where I can get this tape, I want to use the same as the factory used. Thanks. 1. Fully separate the aluminum trim ring from it's plastic substrate. Use care not to bend or scratch the panel.
2. Prepare the plastic substrate panel by removing all tape residue and apply a generous coat of adhesion promoter (3M Part # 4298UV) to the entire surface.
3. Allow the adhesion promoter to dry for at least 1 minute and apply new strips of 1" wide(25mm) double sided tape (3M Part #9495LE) according to the illustration (Figure 1). The tape must be applied to the plastic substrate within one (1) hour. If not, the adhesion promoter must be reapplied.
4. Prepare the aluminum panel by removing any existing adhesive or tape. Ensure that there are no bends, nicks, or scratches that would inhibit adhesion between the aluminum ring and the plastic substrate.
5. Align the aluminum trim ring with the plastic substrate and press together. Ensure good contact between both panels by applying firm pressure around the perimeter of the ring.
6. Remove the eleven (11) existing retaining clips . . .
the rest is for the early 05 panel repair. You should be able to find everything at local paint shops, or auto parts stores.

I did mine with double side mirror tape right from Home Depot. Works better than the original since it is a little thicker. The thin stuff the factory uses requires a perfect fit - the mirror stuff is a little more forgiving.

FORGET PAINTING THEM, CALL YOUR DEALER TELL THEM THEY FELL OFF AND THEY WILL REPLACE THEM WITH NEW ONES:thumbsup AANNNDD THEY WILL HAVE THE UPGRADE RETAINING CLIPS SO THEY NEVER FALL OFF AGAIN!. COMMON WARRANTY ITEM, THEN KEEP THE OLD ONES FOR SPARES. GTJOEY 1314 AND LOVING IT:thumbsup

I am not a proponent of lying to Ford and/or making a fraudulent warranty claim.:bs
If they fell off and got scratched, make the claim. If you hit them with your foot and scratched them it is your own problem. If you can afford to own a Ford GT, you can afford a few bucks for a new piece of aluminum trim. What ever happened to doing what is right?
For the record, I am not in favor of committing insurance fraud either. :bored
