From time to time, I've been curious how much money it cost to make the Ford GT when all was said and done. I've heard some speculations that it cost more than it returned, but never really heard an educated estimate.

Obviously a labor of love and dedication by all those wonderful people involved, and ownership has truly been priceless.

I thought I heard a quote from Fred on a TV show that the GT "made" money for Ford.

Yeah, alot of guys claim it made money. Alot of guys also claim they caught a fish thiiiiiiis big. Depends on your definition of "made" money. Being on every rag cover for 4 years is priceless. The vehicle program itself was in the upper $1XX million range. After the initial control arm recall with white glove service, the halfshaft bolts, etc even though my man Jamal claims it made a little money, I want to see the numbers on paper to prove it :lol

I think they will continue to make money for Ford - as long as we keep driving them and showing them to the general public. It truly is the "Pace Car for an Entire Company" - and for the SVT boys for sure! The Ford GT is one of Ford's best advertisements!

I had mine listed recently in a benefit auction - a century ride (100 mile) in the Ford GT - it drew a healthy sum for the benefit.

Oh, I thought the ride was with a century old guy like you Ralphie.

I attended a charity event yesterday at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia called the Colonial Challenge Cup. For the noon break, anyone could spend another $25 and be treated for several laps around the track in several of the cars "donated for this noon spectator ride" driven by a group of instructors or professionals. Originally, I had only planned to track my car being careful not to let anyone but me do any damage. But wouldn't you know, of all folks I get former NASCAR driver Bob McEwlee as my instructor. What a treat! That made my day. And, I offered up my car to the spectator ride event so long as Bob was the driver. Needless to say, the hour was not long enough to fit everyone in, so he continued with my car into the next session. The passengers all ended up with a smile wanting their own FGT.

Bob imparted to me that he really thought highly of the car after driving it, mainly as there were absolutely no surprises; everything worked very well.

. . . and did Bob teach me a bunch!

Pete you are having way to much fun!!!!!!! Keep it up it brings a smile to my face:thumbsup

It does continue to be a good advertisement for FORD. I listed a 1hr ride in my GT for our local grade school benifit. It was bid up to $250!

I also offered a 1hr ride in my plane, that only drew $200.

Since the GT is capable of being faster than the Cessna, I guess that makes sense:biggrin
