Here is the Sanyo manual for standard (non-Mac) radio

Via a post by DBK, I found the model number of the radio.

I googled that, and found a defunct website of a car audio dealer in Australia who had at one time offered the same radio.

I went to Sanyo's global website and found a link for their Australian arm.

I emailed Sanyo in Australia and they promptly sent me this pdf manual for the Sanyo radio used in Ford GT's that do not have the Macintosh audio.

now we know what the "REL" button did on the original radio. It released the faceplate. This feature is disabled on the GT version.
