Heffner TT install complete!

Little History: In 2017 I started my search for my dream car. The dream was a white/blue stripe GT and I knew going into my purchase that no matter what car I found, 10 miles or 100,000 miles, it was going to get modded, because that's just how I am, I will make it my own and it will be badass, no matter what it is.

In June of 2018, I found what I considered my “unicorn”, when I purchased my 2005 Ford GT from Ed Sims. Pretty much everyone knows of Ed Sims GT if you’ve been around the forums for a while. It was a pleasure taking ownership of such a great example of a GT and it was also a huge bonus that John Mihovetz, from Accufab racing, had already built one badass motor to go with it, which is why I refer to it as my unicorn.

Fast Forward to September of 2020: Dan Schoneck reached out to me, because he knew I was thinking about installing a TT kit in my GT. Dan had just taken ownership of Coy Christmas' GT that was damaged in an accident and had a Heffner kit on it. Dan and I made a deal and the process began! Dan is a busy man, but took the time to painstakingly remove the complete Heffner kit, take pictures, videos and label every connection on the kit, then FedEx it to me piece by piece. We spoke often and he was always available to answer any question I had. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

While the turbo kit was coming in, I worked with Cicio Performance locally (formerly Top Speed Motorsports) to order a MoTec M150 and harness from the team over at M2K Motorsports. Cicio installed the MoTec and did some fuel system upgrades including, 1000 and 1200cc injectors, three 485 Walbro pumps in a Radium pump tank/basket, Fore Pump Controller, PTFE lines and Ethanol Sensor. I also upgraded the two in tank pumps with E85 compatible DW300 fuel pumps.

While that was being done, I ordered a 4-post lift for my garage, obviously to make my job easier for the turbo install, why the heck not! Every car guy needs a lift in his garage!

Other things I did in the process:
  • New Billet RPS clutch from Carolina Clutches
  • New throw out bearing
  • Cleaned, painted and clear coated the transaxle while it was out of the car
  • Powder coated the cam covers
  • Turbo intake was custom painted to the paint scheme of the car
  • Had all turbo piping and coil covers chromed
  • Cleaned, painted the front under body skid plate
  • Installed billet ceramic bearing serpentine belt pulleys
  • Rewrapped a lot of wiring and new protective black wire sheath where I could
  • Swapped hard transaxle cooling lines over to flexible to get around turbo piping
  • Lots of deep cleaning
  • Fresh transaxle fluid
  • Fresh oil
  • Fresh coolant
  • Fresh clutch fluid/bleed
  • Fresh brake fluid/bleed
In the next couple of weeks, I’m having a custom top exit polished titanium exhaust fabricated and installed. Once that’s complete, we will do final tuning on 93 Octane and maybe a hotter fuel (Ignite Red 114) to see what kind of power it can make. I’ll drive the car around 99% of the time on 93 Octane until I can find a half mile event close enough to attend.

It’s been a great learning experience to tear into such an iconic car and really connect with the engineering of it. I’m looking forward to many more years of enjoyment in my new TTGT! Enjoy the photos!

WOW this thread feels like 10+ years ago, when it felt like there was a thread a month of someone doing twins, or the latest whipple etc.

Great job making what was an awesome car, even better, and yours!

Enjoy it!

Fantastic. I am looking forward to your driving impressions comparing the Whipple to the TT system.

By that I mean how does the TT react at lower RPM and seat of pants feeling.

Curious how many miles on the old pressure plate:
Art138, not sure when this clutch was last replaced. We put the car on the dyno with the new fuel system, when it still had the Whipple on it, and it started slipping at 850whp.

Impressive work! Imagination is the limitation with these cars.

You’re going to love Hefner’s TT.
