Yes, buy the kit from Accufab. There are several posts on this topic on the forum. Also, Ford will (finally) be coming out with a better bolt/washer kit of its own later this year, however since your car is currently disabled, I suggest you go with the Accufab parts even though it is likely Ford's kit and its installation will be covered under warranty.

Good luck, usmcfred

You MUST use ACCUFAB'S kit. The Ford bolts are substandard for the application.

He said that he is getting about 3,000 miles per breakage. Becoming VERY discouraged with the whole situation. I just Fed-ex'd him an Accufab kit today.

Yes indeed !. This is my 3rd FORD GT (I have sold 2 of them) and got the same problem to all of them. There many rotating parking ramps here in Monaco and apparently this cause extra lateral strength to the bolts... Heffner's propose extreme duty half axles. Does anybody know if this is a permanent fix ??

Another solution would be: Never manoeuver with this car ! or put 185 wide tires !

I'm also trying to get a solution from GKN. I will also have an extreme duty washer flange & bolts manufactured by a shipyard !

Jamal addressed the "Solution" at the Rally in Newport during the owners' Q&A session. Ford has done tons of research and has identified the bolt itself as being the problem. And announced an R&R program for this fall. Maybe in October.

During the build of the GT's there were dual axle bolt suppliers. Some of the bolts, from one of the vendors, were found not to be manufactured to the requested Ford GT specification. The product from both manufacturers were mixed together when placed in the inventory system and randomly installed in the GT's. Thus the randomness of failures of the axle bolts in our cars.

Jamal said that we would all received a letter from Ford, this fall, with the requisite information on arranging for replacement at your local Ford dealer. As the majority of the GT's reside in "the lower 48", you folks around the world on either side of the big ponds, will probably be provided for in a slightly different manor. I imagine that Roush England would be the one to ask about it, in your case.

Hope this helps you out, and that my recollection and summarization of Jamal's commentary is "spot on".

Regards from Seattle

Tks, Jeff. That's make sense. I hve lost confidence in the car and cannot travel fearing a breakdown. Ford's original replacement are not quality controlled and I have got the same problem with the replacement. I fail to understand how Ford can let this problem unsolved for such a long time. Nevertheless I got the the Accufab's replacement and will see the result if I don't sell the car in the meantime. The car being purchased in the States and imported in Europe Ford will not keep me informed of anything and will not support any warranty replacement.

Regards from Monaco...

Remember that to date there have been no - NO - failures of the Accufab replacement bolts reported by anyone. Yes, there are limited numbers of Accufab sets out there, yada-yada, but still - 'no reports of failures with 'em.

'Point being: you pbly will have nothing to sweat after you install 'same.:thumbsup

'Just my $.02.

Why worry

Stevo - my broke too.

Don't remember the mileage, but it was at least 30,000 miles ago.

Awaiting The Letter like everyone else.

Not being one of the 101 (+10) European cars, nor one of the 200 Canadian Mac delete cars, may be problematical for you in getting the notification directly from Ford.

As you have done for a long time - keep an eye on the Forum.

When the letters arrive in the mail, there will be a foot race to the
computer, Black Berry/ Iphone or signal fire to Be The First to post:

I got my letter today!

p.s. Don't sell it because of a $2.00 part "problem". October isn't too far off. Some of us U.S. owners are contemplating a 2008 European GT Vacation with GT's. The 24 & the Vintage 24 and Goodwood events are in the running. And we'd love to meet you and your GT. Keep the Faith Baby!

Stevo...."I fail to understand how Ford can let this problem unsolved for such a long time."

You have to understand the deleterious effects electro plating has on high strength fasteners which come from different european suppliers some of which plate and others do not. Hydrogen embrittlement is very difficult to detect and not usually considered in a failure scenerio. Hind sight is ALWAYS 20/20.
Thanks to all those members who posted their failure mileage, date and VIN on earlier threads as the Ford team was using this information for any possible directional leads. Did you post your failures?

Ford has now identifed the problem and a proposed fix is being procured for distribution yet to be announced to all us owners.

Larry is correct, if you installed the ARP bolts which come with the Accufab kit you are probably just fine and would be your option to get the "CA" bolt/washer upgrade Ford will be distributing later this Fall.

Keep the CAR!
A significant distraction to be sure, but the satisfaction of the drive is what it's all about!

Take Care....
