...What the heck happened to it? I know, I know - $$$$$$$$. (It was a rhetorical question , I guess.)

Does ANYBODY have any kind of inside info at all as to whether there are any plans for that car to see the light of day once Ford gets solidly back on it's feet? 'Anybody even heard any scuttlebutt at all? (If I remember correctly, at one time Ford DID intend to build it because of all the favorable "show circuit" feedback on it.)

That thing just has sooooo many possibilities. It's just too sharp lookin' to be tossed into the dust bin of disguarded projects.

(If the "bean counters" could be prevented from screwing the concept car up on the way to production, I'd have two of 'em in a heartbeat myself.)

Pockets,

It's my understanding that the Ford 500 (now Taurus) is the direct result of the 49 concept car. Got this from a friend that was on the 500 program.

I liked the car, and wish they had kept the styling intact.
:thumbsup

I'd love to see the '49 concept made it into a real car. I'd buy it! I heard it was shelved in favor of our GT.

I just can't believe that the Ford 500 is based at all on the 49 concept. Its a streach for me to believe a 2 door v8 rwd concept becomes a 4 door front driver.. (except in NASCAR) :)

Did you know there was a 49 Convertible too?

I might bite if you were thinking the Ford 427 Concept became the Ford 500..

'Have to agree with DanQ. I really can't see where the 500/Taurus could possibly be th' "49" - if only because I DON'T WANT TO!:lol But then again, I guess the 4 seater Thunderbird DID come from the two seater ... sorta kinda ...

And there's no denying you'd be in a good position to know, 'Tech.

RATS. Ford screwed up on that one ... :bang

The Ford Fusion actually received alot in design from the 427 concept. (exterior that is)

Pockets,

I think the transformation from the 49 to the 500 was more mechanical and size than styling, although there are some styling cues that carried over. I do agree that someone blew it by not bringing the 49 concept to production. Lets see what happens with the recent 427 concept car. That could be interesting.

Andy, things are great out here. Other than the occasional dust storm, and a few black widow spiders that is. We will be back in Michigan for a few days at the end of this week. Maybe we can get together. :thumbsup:thumbsup

The 2007 Ford Interceptor concept is the closest I've seen to the 427 concept. It's 400HP and based on a stretched Mustang platform if I recall correctly.
