The GT40 that Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt drove to the historic victory in 1967 is on its way back to Gurney from The Henry Ford Museum! It's going to All-American Racers in California for freshening up for the future. Check it out at http://www.carguychronicles.com/2013/03/ford-gt40-mark-iv-all-american-le-mans.html

The car's frame was damaged while being shipped to Goodwood last year. The museum has retained AAR to do a surgical type repair as to try and keep the car as close to the same condition it was in at the finish of the 24 hr race. As I understand the car was never disturbed from it race winning set up and even retains the original motor oil. A true piece of race history. AAR will make it right once again.:thumbsup

Just as with the Indy/Lotus was until its' restoration, was shut-off and never prepped for storage. Unfortunately with the Lotus, it had some damage to the engine internals as the fuel (methanol) is highly corrosive. Shouldn't have the same issue on the GT.

I've used methanol on more than a few motors, mostly to cool the burn while spraying Nos. It is nasty stuff, rots aluminum very quickly.

How do you damage the frame from shipping other than scratching it from tie downs?

Never have understood how keeping the original oil and gas has anything to do with its originality except to ruin the engine, transmission, etc. Makes no sense to me why someone would want to intentionally ruin a car especially a historic..

Ed, The car was dropped from several feet in the air while still strapped in it's shipping container as it was being unloaded. The chassis/frame is hurt but the body is still mostly ok.

Same thing happened to Porsche's first 356, dropped by Luftansia while being shipped to a Porsche Reunion. Extensive unibody damage.....since repaired.

Hey! My FGT is the same color!!!
It was an historic finish. First in class, First overall and set a lap record.

Hence more proof Red is the fastest color!!!

If Mose says its original, I believe him.

He was the engine guy on that car. As he mentioned in the video, the safety wiring is a giveaway. Like a fingerprint.
