One of my friends, Gary Savage, who is coaching a Camaro driver in the same class as this Ford GT today just sent me these photos, taken at Chin Motorsports event at Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, AL. Not sure who owns it?GT@Barber-1.jpgGT@Barber engine.jpg

That's a very interesting air inlet. Is it aftermarket? Who sells this?

Barber in a FGT. Heaven! Such a beautiful track.

Looks like the GTG CAI.

Damn that was quick. Glad I wasn't trying to sneak around. Yes, the intake is from The GT Guys. Adds 40 or so hp. It's pretty hot down here, been testing a water spray system on the engine heat exchanger. Encouraging results. More later. Also been trying some settings on the new Ahlman Engineering strut package. Barber is a unique track; short and quick with some fun twisties and elevation changes that challenge a large car like the GT.

Any heat soak problems?

Tons. Looking for a viable solution though.

Did you put in the trans cooler?

Also, it is stated that an X-pipe (if you need to keep cats) will help reduce engine heat inside the compartment.

Transx cooler, yes. X pipe with cat delete pipes, all ceramic coated. It's the classic 10 pounds of crap in a 5 pound box; 700 hp in a cooling system made for 550.

Heat soak from what exact subsystem ECT OR IAT?

Cat delete pipes make the most heat. The 2200 degree ceramic coating is even taking a beating down there . They melted the starter solenoid housing. I'll have to shield that, but more likely ill just put the cats back on. The rest is down to engine power and lack of cooling capacity. Can get about 5 good laps and I'm done. Bummer.

Janine scooped me on that! I'll have to find some other car.

I would have thought the cat-delete pipes would have fared better - especially with the ceramic coating.
Thanks for posting your results, I guess I'll hold off with installing my pipes - too many negatives.

Cat deletes add more bang to the sound, not nearly as bad as long tube headers, but louder than cats for sure. And a little bump in power. But the increase in heat is impressive. For sure some additional shielding down there is in order as there is a long section of naked pipe where the car had a bit of its own shielding built in. I'm melting stuff down there.

I'll add that this is not a problem for normal street driving. If you don't drive hard, party on.

It doesn't sound like cat delete is worth the trouble. Extra heat and maybe only 5 to 10 hp....
