I know this type of thread has been beaten to death in the past on this forum but i thought it would be nice to rekindle the topic for all the new owners of FORD GTs and it would be nice to hear from some of the old owners too

Tell us your stories of recognition when washing , driving or having your car serviced

This type of topic always makes for good reading on a rainy weekend here in BC , Canada

Drove home from California last weekend. Several cars filmed as they drove by and when I fueled up, A crowd developed at every stop. In the middle of Oregon, A group of people snapped pictures as I ceremoniously filled the tank.

Of course 2-3 had no idea Ford built such a car. One guy thought I had the factory build me a one-off prototype. :lol

Besides the daily rubber neckers and people stopping to take pics...

Yesterday I had a very nice old couple in their 80's stop me as I was about to get in the GT with my subway sandwich to ask about the car....

Gave them a quick lesson and they didn't even open the door to subway until they saw me drive off.
Really nice experience.

It's cool how kids from a very young age, to mature adults appreciate the GT.

Our school car show was the other day, and my dad, along with some other businesses, put in some high end cars. These included a v10 r8 spyder, 2011 gt500, and my dads GT. I drove the gt into the show, and everyone stopped what they were doing to see the car. I stood by it for around 1/2 hour constantly asking questions. Finaly, someone asked me to rev it up some, so I jumped in, and when I started reving it, every single blasted person, no exceptions, came over to check out the car! Needless to say, It won the peoples choice award over the r8.

1: 'Had some dude do a '360*' tour around the GT while doing 70 m.p.h. on a 6 lane freeway taking pics with one hand and DRIVING with the other...most of the time.

2: 'Pulled into a local restaurant and had the whole crew (cooks, dish washer, servers, hostess - the works) swarm out of the place to take cell phone picks before I could even get out of the car. (That's no lie. There wasn't an employee left in the place!)

3: 'Spent at least 20 minutes answering questions during a gas stop, and during that time, two cars 'orbiting' the pump islands looking at the GT darn near collided 'cause neither driver was looking where he was going, nor were they aware each other was there.

4: 'Saw one guy darn near get run over when he stepped out onto the street with is back to traffic to take a cell photo as the GT passed...'neither the guy taking the pic or the on-coming driver were aware of each other 'cause they were both gawkin'.

5: 'Can't tell you how many "rear enders" were only avoided at the last second.

6: 'Had a guy & his girlfriend pull up beside us at a 'light...'motioned for us to roll the window down...wanted to me to "stand on it", so he could, "see what the GT could do", and "(he'd) pay the ticket if I got caught". Riiiiiiiiiiiight, Bubba.

7: Probably my personal favorite was the time a guy walking toward us (wifey was with me) on the sidewalk tried to act like he just wasn't interested at all in looking at the GT, and he made a point to totally ignore the car as it went buy him - eyes straight ahead! Buuuuut, he juuuuuust couldn't quite pull it off! When we had gone BY him and he thought it was safe, he just had to turn around and take a look...only to see me waving at him out the driver's window! I'd been watching him in the passenger side rear view mirror and I KNEW what he was going to do - so I was ready for him! "GOTCHA!" (I'm a truely rotten person!)

There are a buncha other examples.

EP, the attention was not because you were driving a FGT, but just the fact that you were driving. It is such a rare event that most in your town consider it a miracle and had to document it for the non-believers. :lol

You might have a point. Mine was the only FGT in town. 'Guess it's possible everyone who saw it knew whose it was.

I just hate it when you make a possibly valid point!

Last weekend while at a red light a guy jumped out of his car ran over and asked if I would pull over and let his son look at the car upclose. His son came over and explained he was a Ford freak, member of the SVT Forums, had a '03 Cobra he was working on and that the GT was his favorite car of all time. After a few minutes of the boy asking questions like "How much HP does this GT have" "do I know the guy that went 266 in Texas" "what's it like to own the coolest car in the world" "I hear the car in Texas has 1600hp" the father wispered in my ear that it was his son's birthday and wanted to purchase him a ride in my car as a present. After pondering for a minute I told him he should go ask the guy in Texas:bored....LOL. Actually I told him to hop in and we went for a little ride. I could tell by the look on his face when I broke the Michelin 335 20's loose in first and second it had made his day (as well as mine).:wink

Wow, Lucky Kid.

Great story Steve.

Jeff, I agree, we all need another but EP REALLY needs to replace his.

The GT isn't his problem.

He has a "perfect weather" only driving personal limitation, and lives in Bellingham.

I often have this happen where I live and it really makes me wonder why people do this , I just have to put my head down and shake it in amazement .

When I see a nice car I always go over and say high , just like the other day when a guy in my area had his garage open and was looking at his Gallardo , I went right into his garage and talked to him , unfortunately he lost a bit of interest when I told him I had a GT and reminded him of the battle of the supercars episode , I could not resist , as far as i know his car didnt have a blown engine or at least not yet

You mean the episodes where Tracy got his butt kicked in 3 different races and said something like "...looks like more than 15 lbs of boost" and then his engine pissed out oil and water? LOL

:agree: I've often wondered the same thing. I mean, what harm does it do to give anyone a :thumbsup on his nice car, boat, 'chopper', plane, home, watch, ring - or pair of shoes for that matter? Why NOT "make someone's day" if the opportunity presents itself? It's not like it's gunna cost anyone anything.

I'll paraphrase someone here on The 'Forum who once postulated it was an envy/jealousy issue on the one hand, and an "I-refuse-to-stroke-the-ego-of-a-'rich'-guy-'cause-I-ain't-one-and-never-will-be" attitude on the other. 'Probably involves a touch(?) of resentment/bitterness regarding their own circumstances as well.

I'm sure glad I'm perfect! :biggrin

People who think this way probably will never be "rich", because you can't become what you despise.

EP, I don't know if you are perfect. IMO no one is perfect, but I am as close as you can get. :biggrin

Took my 8th grade daughter to her graduation dance last year in the GT, dropped her off out front of the gym where all the kids were waiting. They all were wondering who was going to get out. My wife was in the crowd and snapped this photo, it's a favorite of mine.
