I'm pretty set on removing the side stripes with the FORD GT logo and reinstalling plain side stripes of the same width and color. Has anyone done this? If so please post photos; if not your $0.02 is always appreciated. BTW, I purchased a complete new set of side stripes from Ford so if need be I can always restore the vehicle to its as built appearance.

Joe, the vendor doing the GT40 stripe should be able to do a solid for you.

I'm still annoyed that Ford wouldn't let you pay for the top stripe option while allowing owners to delete the side strip -- especially after I saw the build process and confirmed it was a no-brainer. The side stripes were the last things to go on the car, stuck on the outside of the clearcoat. It would have been easy to delete them for buyers who chose to, but I'm sure Ford wanted to get the max advertising/halo bang for all their GT R&D bucks, so it was either no stripes, full stripes, or side stripes only.

Yes, anyone with a heat gun can remove them, but why not offer it as a factory set-up? Oh wait, I just answered that above...:bored

Can't say that I am that fond of the stripe without the GT. No stripe would be better.

If you go no stripe, I would go for one of these:

Ordered 2 extra.

Will stop a lot of the "what is it" questions.

Either way, my vote is no stripe or GT stripe or GT40 stripe, not just a stripe.

I just read a British magazine - I think it was called "Octane" with a great article on the original Ford GT. The side stripes are just like the originals. I personally thought it was very interesting read by a ground floor participant in the racing effort. I also found it interesting that the original was not a "GT40" - it was the "Ford GT" though I'm sure that has already been covered on this board many times.

I think that it makes it look like a CAV or kit car. It has some historical appeal but the stock stripe lets people know that the car is the real deal.
