Has anyone of our special vendor's/ machinist's ever talked about engraving/ stamping the Ford GT logo on top of the gas door? I have seen a few of these prototype gas doors on Forum members cars and they look fantastic.

If you do a search, you'll find info. Talk to RedGT1442. One of the East coast shops had some made up, but be prepared for big bucks.

Gentlemen,

This sounds like a job for our master machinist Pe2unia. Machine them out of billet aluminum with the appropriate logo, and then paint them the stock silver color to prevent corrosion. What do you think John?

I can tell you that I have about $3000 in the cad and machining of the 3 i've made. Thats on a stock gas cap and I had etchings of the original stamps. It takes over well over a full day to machine because of the size of the bit and how slow it has to go. The machinist had to make a special jig to hold them because of the curve of the cap. After the first 3 he raised his price to $1000 a cap just to machine them.

You should post some pictures as well as look into a group buy for everyone interested.

There was no discount for one over 100. Beyond the machining you have to purchase the gas cap which I believe is above $500 now. I had 2 that were ruined because they got scratch or messed up while machining as it was an imperfect process and the curve of the cap made it very difficult. Unfortunately for me I'm not interested in taking on the responsibility of others items.

You also have to remember that beyond the cost of the cap and machining you then have the cost of installation which I think was about $500 or so from the GT Guys to remove the fender and replace the cap. I would say that its not worth the trouble if I wanted to do it over again.

Not trying to upset the cart here.......although I think those look really great......I purchased one from Bob Ida Automotive many years ago, and had him install it.........I dont remember that the installation cost as much as $500......but people here know more than I,.........The last I checked with Ida Automotive he did have about 5 or 6 left..........I dont know how much he wants for them...but if it helps I paid $750.00, and had to give him the cap off the car. The caps that were ingraved were purchased from Ford....so they are NOS.

His shop is in Morganville New Jersey.........I dont have his number, but I guess a little googoling will find it.

Gino

P.S. At the time he did tell me that whom ever made them spent a lot of time on these to get them perfect.
