One of the local FGT guys shared this with me:

SMOG INN (Test only)
17222 Gothard St.
Suite E
H.B., CA 92647

Don H. Nguyen 714-841-4448

Don not only knew what a GT is, he had photos of a GT in his shop being tested. He also had
photos of other high end cars (Ferrari 360 & 430, Bentley etc.) in his shop. Don is a "car guy".

He did the smog test on my GT and it passed without any problems!

Eric,

Grumpy's Smog in Chatsworth is great. He's done several GT's. Very careful and respectful with the cars. A one man show so you don't have to worry about getting anything short of the best care.

Most excellent, gentlemen. Will follow-up.

Can't believe they are bugging me on this. I have 4900 miles on the GT, Jerry Brown and his pals, are looking for every possible way to tax us to death. I need to move my registration to Mammoth Lakes, Ca. Ralphie has no smog testing in Mono County.

Amador County no testing too. Remember the areas of no testing can be changed from time to time. I believe that new test areas have been added, but none deleted.

I don't really understand why a "special" place is needed. All they do is plug into the OBD II port if it is an OBDII vehicle, and check the fuel door. At least, that's how it is here in phoenix. I do make it a point to plug the tool in myself so the guy doesn't bend the OBD port support, but otherwise...? IS there a dyno test required too?

Smog certification is required upon the sale or exchange of title, as I believe that is a State requirement. However, there is no periodic testing in Mono County at this time, as the permanent population is currently only about 14,000 for the 21st largest county in the state (21 out of 60) at a size of 3,044 square miles. Most small towns in the rest of the state have larger populations than our whole county.

Amador County has the 56th largest area (593 square miles) and a population of about 35,000.

The county with the black dot in the center is Mono. The black dot is Mono Lake.

(PS - and the prevailing winds blow anything in the air into Nevada)

For most of the people living in the USA, a lot of things are hard to understand in CA! :ack

Counties in CA that require smog tests.

http://smogcheck.ca.gov/80_BARResources/02_SmogCheck/Engineering/Program_Map.pdf

Counties that require test during initial registration

http://dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm

Interesting number of smog test shops have been busting, lots in SoCal!

http://smogcheck.ca.gov/enforcement/index.html

Now someone need to start a business than operates a garage to store cars in located in non-smog counties. Then owners can rent a spot and register their cars there. :biggrin.

SYCO a new business opportunity! Of course you are at the whim of Sacramento changing the regulations and putting you out of business. :ack

A "special" place is needed because this is LA and not Phoenix. A Dyno is required. Seen several of the dyno set-ups. Many of them above ground with short ramps, etc.

A "special" place will have a GT-friendly in-ground dyno and wil llet the GT owner "hover" and the test will be performed by an adult with lots of experience. That's just my opinion.
