So yesterday I was driving along Sunset Blvd., and while stopped at the Kenter Ave. intersection stoplight in Brentwood I noticed a Midnight Blue Metallic, stripe-delete Ford GT sitting on the street to my left, hazard lights flashing, with a flat bed tow truck backing up to it.
Thinking I may be able to give a hand, and to see if I knew the driver (though I'd never spotted this particular FGT in town) I looped around and parked behind the GT.
I walked up as the owner and driver were looking at the front of the GT, and as I introduced myself as a fellow GT owner, I recognized the owner as Mac Davis, the country western singer and part time actor.
I asked if there was anything I could do to lend a hand and he said they had everything under control, but could not find where to attach the tow hook so I showed them the spot inside the grill opening. At that time I offered advice as to not utilized the tow hook for ANYTHING but pulling the GT onto the flat bed, especially not to use it to tighten the GT forward after affixing it to the flat bed. I then asked how they planned to secure the GT, and the tow truck driver said he will use wheel baskets, and I then saw them on the flat bed ready for use.
Mac was a nice enough fellow, especially given the circumstances. When I asked him what happened, he said he was pulling out from around the corner when the transmission just "let loose." I asked him if he had the transaxle bolt warranty replacement work done, and he was unaware if it had. I did not see any fluid behind the car on the ground, but told him to be sure to get that work done if it had not happened, even if everything looked OK.
He then said he rarely drives the car, and not very hard at that, "except when I want to peel the eyelids back on some friends from zero to 60 or so" and that "this was the most incredible car he had ever owned or driven."
So, that is my report from La-La-Land. :lol
Anyone else have a celebrity GT owner sighting, especially a non-automotive celebrity?
