Celebrity GT Owner Sighting

So yesterday I was driving along Sunset Blvd., and while stopped at the Kenter Ave. intersection stoplight in Brentwood I noticed a Midnight Blue Metallic, stripe-delete Ford GT sitting on the street to my left, hazard lights flashing, with a flat bed tow truck backing up to it.

Thinking I may be able to give a hand, and to see if I knew the driver (though I'd never spotted this particular FGT in town) I looped around and parked behind the GT.

I walked up as the owner and driver were looking at the front of the GT, and as I introduced myself as a fellow GT owner, I recognized the owner as Mac Davis, the country western singer and part time actor.

I asked if there was anything I could do to lend a hand and he said they had everything under control, but could not find where to attach the tow hook so I showed them the spot inside the grill opening. At that time I offered advice as to not utilized the tow hook for ANYTHING but pulling the GT onto the flat bed, especially not to use it to tighten the GT forward after affixing it to the flat bed. I then asked how they planned to secure the GT, and the tow truck driver said he will use wheel baskets, and I then saw them on the flat bed ready for use.

Mac was a nice enough fellow, especially given the circumstances. When I asked him what happened, he said he was pulling out from around the corner when the transmission just "let loose." I asked him if he had the transaxle bolt warranty replacement work done, and he was unaware if it had. I did not see any fluid behind the car on the ground, but told him to be sure to get that work done if it had not happened, even if everything looked OK.

He then said he rarely drives the car, and not very hard at that, "except when I want to peel the eyelids back on some friends from zero to 60 or so" and that "this was the most incredible car he had ever owned or driven."

So, that is my report from La-La-Land. :lol

Anyone else have a celebrity GT owner sighting, especially a non-automotive celebrity?

Aaaaaaaaah, mebbe so, but, 'way I look at it, anonymity is your friend! Therefore, Pockets duzzunt seek, isn't interested in, and will always try to avoid even the slightest "celebrity" status of any kind no matter how brief or insignificant! :willy:willy:willy

Oh yea I remember now, hearing Mac Davis sing

" oh lord its hard to humble, when your perfect in everyway, I can't wait to look in the mirror (or the shop), I get better lookin each day, to know me is to love me, I must be a hell of man (car), oh lord its hard to humble, Im doin the best that I can" ( catch me if you can)

Some how this lyric fits the GT in every way. :lol

My Mac Davis story - I was at the BMI awards one year to pick up an award for the TV show "Las Vegas", which had as its theme song Elvis's "A Little Less Conversation"... which Mac wrote. The event was the usual self-congratulatory affair, VERY black-tie....

Mac rolled up to the stage to collect his statue wearing a tan corduroy jacket with suede patches on the elbows, showing much chest hair and a chain or two with three buttons open on his patterned shirt.

Like he stepped out of the studio in 1974. VERY legit. Awesome.

Besides, that track was the best music we heard all night!

did you get his email or phone, we can use him on our next rally as an invite. Refer him to Buerge Ford or Galpin. I saw him once on the golf course at Toluca Lake, as you said a nice guy.

OK, this is off-topic, but for any other music fans here, Graham Nash compiled a series of interviews with folks who have written famous songs, including Mac Davis. It's a book with two CDs of interviews, and now at a discounted price ($13!) on Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Off-Record-Songwriters-Graham-Nash/dp/B001SARCN4/ref=ed_oe_h_bargain

As a guy with a 2-digit number of guitars, I found it pretty interesting- maybe some of you guys would think so too.

Atomic, I did not get cell phone or email. But when he talked about how his golfing buddy, Carroll, and he got their GTs together, they both ordered stripe delete, then Carroll went and had ghost stripes painted on his. They are members of Bel Air Country Club, as is a good friend of mine that he said he new very well. He said to tell my buddy to get a game together with the three of us, so I would assume I could get something in the future....

While we were standing there, he took a call from a guy he called Eric, as they had phoned him to ask about tow hook location....do you know an Eric in service at Buerge, Galpin or Santa Monica Ford?
