I purchased the Sparco belts and decided I didn't want to leave the lap belts bolted in all the time. I had a track day coming up and I needed a quick solution. I didn't have to look far for a alternate belt system. I have been using the Safecraft belt system in my 06 GT for 8 plus years. I really like that belt setup so now I needed to make it work in the new GT.
The vertical shoulder belts will fit to the factory installed bones on the new GT with no changes so all I had to do was to come up with a bracket to attach the lap belts and sub belts. Using the Safecraft brackets from the 06 car as material guide lines I came up with a simple one piece bracket that bolts in to the location used for the belt attachment.
My design criteria was to have a bracket that would not interfere with plugging into the normal belt and pivot up and down easily and smoothly with minimal resistance. Playing with the length and spacers on the mounting stud I found a perfect combination to achieve my goals. Once had my design I made a prototype out of aluminum. After I had it just right I made the final brackets.
The brackets were very simple to make. I used 3/16 thick X 1 1/4 " wide SS flat stock. One hole to drill* for the mounting pivot point and one window to cut. I have a mill to cut the window but you could drill a series of holes and file out the window if you are ambitious.. I left the attaching area brushed SS and painted the middle black. That could be wrapped in black vinyl as a quick and easy surface to make them blend in.
I made these a few months ago and have used them a few times now. They work great !!* I never got around to making this post..
Recently Indy GT, Dr Frank and Big Inch Blake were at the PRI show and met the Sabelt Rep. The Sabelt rep is near me so I offered up my GT for measurements. We are going to try to meet soon, maybe this week.* They will possibly come up with a system of their own. They haven't seen my brackets but they may want to do something similar so stay tuned and lets see what they come up with.
This post serves two purposes Many of us have the old Safecraft belt system. if you want a easy solution to use the belts you have these brackets I made work great. If you want a new system other than the Sparco system you can wait to see what Sabelt comes up with.
I have my drawings for the bracket dimensions and the mounting stud spacer set up. I would have to clean it up before I sent it out or posted it here but I can do it if someone wants the info... stay tuned.. same bat time same bat channel...
