Wondering your opinion on the ZAR vs USD.

I only know exchange rate for Russian models

You might find a lot of work as a "financial advisor" then.
May have to share your portfolio more though to secure clients

And whats the current daily rate on that?

I have followed this currency for years. Unpredictable at best, but reflects gold's strengths inversely proportional to the USD. Lots of political considerations to take into account. R value has sunk greatly in the past year. Smart cookies can play and win but it's a gamble at best.
See http://www.oanda.com/currency/converter/

Last year I looked into shorting the Euro but it turned out to be very risky investment and I did not have the cajones. Gold on the other hand has been very rewarding.

Sam what is your gold outlook for the next 3 months?

I sold 50% at $1500. We really should be in the $2,000 mark but we are not. I suspect there is some market manipulation that is preventing it from hitting those levels. If Europe collapses in the next 3 months and it hits $2,000 then I'm selling half again.

I sold 100% at about 1450 and haven't touch it since.

My original purchase price was under $1,000

My original purchase price was under $1,000

mine was from around the same price but mixed in options trades on gld as well. It was a good ride, but I got light headed and jumped off the bus.

I was at a party last Sat. and spoke with a guy that is purchasing Iraqi dinar's. Thinks the country will become financially and politically stable with it's oil production coming back to full capacity and the US having an interest in keeping outsiders from meddling. At $1.00 US to $1160 Dinar's he figures a $10,000 investment is a reasonable gamble with a potential large return. I'd be interested to here some of your opinions.

Go to 'Vegas and bet on red/black at the roulette tables instead. Unless you know which way Soros is gunna bet on ANY currency at any particular time - you could get your head handed to ya. 'Just MHO.

I remember an old rule, don't invest in what you don't understand. This still applies today. I don't understand much about currency, other than the US dollar will have less value 5 years from now than it does today.

Very sage advice^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks guys. Not actually planning any investments, per se. I have a Safari to pay for and have the option to do so now vs in 3 months from now. Just trying to bet which way the currency is going. The USD is up about 20% vs the ZAR over the last 3 months.

still sittin on 10 pounds of GOLD bullion here and 200 pounds of Silver bullion :biggrin

i watched a BIG time Hedge fund manager make a HIGH $$$$$ bet with Jim Cramer on CNBC a couple of weeks ago. the bet was which single stock or commodity do you think will do the best in 2012. the hedge fund manager said uranium (nuclear fuel) and Cramer said Gold :cool my bet is on Silver but i won't be adding anymore to the 200 lbs of it that i already own as Oil is my number one investment long term :thumbsup

Women are never an investment, but a luxury expenditure with never ending long term liabilities! Kind of like buying a Fcar, the purchase price is just the down payment, it's the maintenance cost that kill you.
