Gents,

lately I observe an odd phenomena. Only the last three times when I washed her, only use non touching pressure washing with osmosis water, she starts to have issues. The first time when I left the washplace she missed ingnitions and rocky ride for few time. She would die at idle, and I had to run for a while and turn off and on again to finally get her running as normal again. The last two times started fine, I went to the fuelstation, and only when taking off there suddely again, the same phenomena. Few times turn off, and start, the thing disappears. :confused

Who can help me on this ? Must be some electric parts that short or get wet and don't conduct preperly the currents in the car. After while it comes back to normal, but looks ridiculous taking off limping, and having to drive her dry.

any leads ? Someone else here experienced same issue?

I've had the same problem. I had gassed her up, went home and washed her. I thought the problem was dirty fuel. Haven't done either since ! Felt like I was driving my 1986 Z28. :eek

Are you washing the engine area? Or over the clamshell without direct water on the engine compartment?

Stefan, personally I have not had these issues but I only use a light spray to hose down the back, and I avoid the vents. Still a few drops get into the engine area, but you have to clean in there anyway. Perhaps you're getting some water into the coils area by overspraying?

What ever it is - one member here had a great idea: use painter's tape to mask over the engine compartment vents by the glass and on the rear deck lid. See if that helps. AND quit pouring Budweiser into the fuel tank - it may be the King of Beers but it doesn't add much octane, except to gals with enormous chests on weekends (that ain't all bad of course). :thumbsup

One other thing - somewhere there is a thread here about some valve in the fuel system cutting out if the car is over-filled. Luckily I haven't had to deal with that one either but there is info around here somewhere in this humungous site.

Stefan. maybe you have the dreaded fuel filler problem covered by the Technical Service Bulletin. GT Joey and Analog have posts on this. Any dashboard light coming on?

I pressure washed my old cars engine bay a while back and water actually got under the spark plugs and I had to pop out the spark plugs put a rag down and absorb a little bit of the moisture. After that she ran great, not that I would reccomend using this method on a Ford GT. Just a thought on what the problem could be.

Thanks guys,

great help in identifying the potential issue here. I will check the dreaded fuel filler problem, and check where water in the engine bay could have come to effect. I never opened the clamshell, and was always careful not to pressure'fill' the vents either. Next time I'll use the regular wash procedure, I'll open up and see where drops might have sneaked in. But the strange thing really is that she drives off fine, and then, when refilling, bam. she chokes on me. Never happens from refilling alone, only after a bath and a drink...if you know what I mean :wink

will keep all posted !

I'm confused. There seems to be a lot of concern about water migrating through the clam shell louvres into the engine bay when the car is washed.
During our tour of Wixom, we saw the bay where the finished car is subjected to a heavy "downpour" of water for 10-15 minutes. I asked our guide if there was any concern ref. water migrating into the engine bay during washing or driving the car in the rain. He emphatically said no and that the only problems after the "rain bay" at Wixom were related to leaks and not engine performance. So, why are we concerned about washing our cars?

Who's worried? I've been caught in the rain so many times, I know where my leaks are.

I believe the owners manual cleaning section said keep water away from vents. I've had hand washers absolutely soak the car and vents with no problems. Now though, I make sure they pay attention when washing. :thumbsup

I try to avoid deliberately getting any water in the engine bay when washing - same when I had the Murcielago.

However I would imagine the GT is moderately protected, you can drive it in the wet, and stop in the rain, so I should think it's OK to have a moderate sprinkling.
