As Bony would always say

"God Bless America"

THANK YOU !!! What a great film & what a beautiful aircraft:thumbsup

Thanks for sharing, Antique aircraft have always been of interest to me.

Thank you for posting! The P51 is a great airplane. Jim Brooks story is amazing and quite touching!

Great story and film. Incredible American ingenuity and production.
Chris Woods does great stuff. He was my wife's boyfriend through high school.
My father in law also flies a P-51, but did not fly one in combat. What a ride those things are! :thumbsup

In a earlier life I worked with an Aircraft Repair Facility in Dallas. We repaired Aircraft Oil Coolers and Heat Exchangers. We once repaired Johnny Rutherfords P51 Mustangs oil cooler. Hangs off the bottom of the engine and is huge. We were given a tour and the plane was magnificent!!!!
Plus Mr Rutherford was quite the gentleman.

Good times!!

Larry

Link to the GT?

I love WW2 aircraft. Especially the P-51 & BF-109. Great video. They are right - we are losing our WW2 pilots quickly. Gunther Rall, the world's 3rd highest fighter ace of all time, just died October 4, 2009. Gunther had 275 victories, flew 621 combat missions, was shot down 8 times & wounded 3 times. Wow.

PS What is the link to our GTs? Well, a pilot & owner of one of the most popular P-51s is Jack Roush. His P-51 is painted & rebuilt to duplicate Bud Anderson's "old Crow". Bud is in the video.

http://http://www.cebudanderson.com/jackroushp51b.htm Rousch's plane being built.

PPS Another link is that Ford engineer John Najjar states he gave the Mustang its name in 1962. He named it after the P-51 Mustang but his boss at Ford, R.H. Maguire, wanted the horse emblem & not a plane. The name stuck.

Man, good idea Ed!
I'll have to get my GT down to Santa Monica Airport and set up a shot. In fact, if there are others interested in a "GT & P-51" photo op, I can make it happen.
Maybe set up something for a weekend morning then a little ride???

I can do that

The local flight museum had a P-51 on display (along with a B-29) this past summer. A friend of mine is a 'museum member, so, my lil' grandaugher & I got a personal "guided tour" of it out on the tarmac before it went up on a demo flight.

That thing is just as impressive SOUNDING as it looks, too!!!

P 51

For what it's worth...

There is a gentleman in Texas who has Kevin Buckler's 2008 / 997 Porsche GT-3 Cup Car painted like a P-51. Complete brushed aluminum finish and rivets. Took them 3 days to hand paint all the rivets. It's quite special. I'll see if I can dig up a photo. I shared the track at VIR with TRG last year and they were coaching him. In the oil biz I think...

Wonderful video.

Thanks for posting.
