Latest project from the Bat Cave:
Well I've been working on various things to improve the driving experience of the GT. I've gotten tired of doing the chicken neck maneuver trying to locate cars in the driver's side mirror. Some of you have tried the little fish eye mirrors.
I thought way not put a passenger side glass in the mirror housing so that's what I did. I always like to keep the original parts so I had to buy a drivers side glass & a passenger side glass. The backing plates are different so you need to remove the glass and switch the base plate. It wasn't to difficult. The glass is held in by a super sticky foam liner. I soaked the edges in Goo Gone and got it to release with some slight pressure and care. After it was out I mixed up some five minute epoxy to reinstall it. I left the foam liner in and it was still sticky so it help hold it in place. The passenger side glass has a slight curve to it but the new flat base was able to conform with not issues.

It's much nicer to have a panoramic view of the traffic around you. It takes a little getting use to but I would not go back to the standard glass. The depth perception is different when backing but even with the stock glass I will always crack the door and look behind me if I need to worry about hitting something

Great idea!

Any way to remove the lettering off of it, and maybe replace it?

The lettering is etched in the glass. The lettering is smaller than the lettering in your photo so you really don't notice it.. but I like the caption in your photo...Cheap and great safety mod for me. :thumbsup You also don't seem to get any head light glare at night , angles ???

Brian, sorry I missed your first post.... I'll check it out first - by simply adding the passenger mirror over the drivers mirror via tape first.....

If I like - Rip and Replace, if not... rip and store spare passenger mirror!

I just bought the replacement glass for each side so I didn't need to damage the original parts. The passenger side has a slight curve to it but it adapted to the driver's side frame OK.. I had Maurice the parts guy from Duval Ford get me the glass at a fair price..

I've gotten so used to the small Wal-Mart convex stick-on mirrors that I don't think I could improve on them. I use them on all my vehicles. Once you get used to focusing on them first instead of the large mirror, they work great. Of course you don't get the clear definition of objects behind you but does it really matter whether it's a Yugo or an 18 wheeler?. The secret is not to try to determine what it is that's beside you, but to realize that there IS something beside you so don't change lanes. I feel very comfortable even in city traffic now.

Interesting idea. I have found that by setting the driver side mirror carefully, I can see the rear of a car in the mirror at the same time I can see the front of the car with perifieral vision. With the car farther back, I can see the nose of the car far enough back to be aware of it. Farther back I can see it in the rear view mirror. It takes carefull positioning of the mirror. The first time I used another car next to me and moved my car back and forth several times to get the position correct. It works and removed any blind spot.

I use this in the race car as well. It positions the mirror farther out than usual (less view behind and more to the side) and needs some practice to get used to the mirror position. Try it at home and see if you can get used to it.

Cheers.

Clever way to take care of your blind spot. :thumbsup
I must be lucky because I can set the three mirrors so when a car on either side is next to me, and slightly behind, I can always see the car in the side mirrors long before it leaves the rear window mirror. Took some time to really trust the mirrors, but no blind spots.
Now if I can just get comfortable parallel parking!
