50% Discount at Infineon - Sunday Nov. 20th

Hi,

I’m president of a private non-profit track organization in Northern California (www.cfra.net). We run at Infineon, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill and Buttonwillow. We emphasize safety and courtesy. In 17 years of holding HPDE sessions we have never had car to car contact. Attendance at a CFRA event is by invitation only. In fact, registration is password protected to insure that only sponsored guests can register.

Unfortunately, we have not had a Ford GT at a track event in a few years. As a sports car fan, this is not acceptable, so here is what I’m willing to do. I’m offering a 50% ($138) discount to any owner that is willing to join us at our Sunday November 20th event at Infineon. This is a 3 run group event with 2.5 hours of track time for everyone.

As $138 is an extremely low price for 2.5 hours of track time at Infineon, this offer is only available while space remains. I can’t turn away people willing to pay full price in order to give someone a 50% discount (I’m a fan but not crazy).

Not sure what the db restriction is, but I've tracked at Infineon many many times and never had any issue. I have the x pipe cat-back set up.

You never heard Raphie's FGT. He got black flagged at Thunder Hill which I believe has a higher limit than Sears Point.

Ralphie - you will get blacked flagged at Infineon as I have the last two times there & you are louder than me. I can't even do Thunderhill with my foot in it. Both tracks I have to go up one gear & low rpm past the sound meter area. 92db Laguna Seca is impossible (my friend's bone stock Viper can't do 92 Laguna!). When we were at Miller I asked what the sound limit was. The response was "What? Are you from California?"

Noise is a tough issue at most tracks....in particular Laguna Seca and Sears Point.

Been black flagged at both in my Datsun racecar. The low sound waves from the induction side of the motor tipped the meters faster than the exhaust. We added air cleaners and "sound proofed" the engine compartment.

And we got through with a 88dba.

Ralphies GT at way less than full throttle might get by the dba limit, but would get flagged anyway because it's Red.

Both Thunderhill and Sears Point have the same limit of 103 at 50 feet. Laguna Seca is 92. I appologise. You guys still have the coolest cars in the world!!!!!!

Hi,

Let me first say that CFRA is a private non-profit organization. You need to be invited to an event by a current member. Clearly LPI was your sponsor because both Monty and Steve have been long-time members, not to mention Bill and Tammy who are now partners with Monty and Steve.

If the event you are speaking of was at Laguna Seca, I have a very clear memory of what happened at least in the case of the Z06 (even after 5 years). To my knowledge, your membership was not rejected.

Here is what happened. The Z06 driver had more than enough experience to drive in our advanced group “A” and given that he was driving a Z06, which is one of the most powerful cars at any event, it was recommended that he run in advanced “A” instead of our beginner/intermediate group. The Z06 owner (I don’t like to use names in an open forum) stated that he had not driven in an unlimited passing group before and decided to go with “B” as opposed to “A”. After two sessions in “B”, he realized that he was too fast for the group and turned in his “B” wrist band for an “A” wrist band. I believe the rest of the day went smoothly for him.

We have a policy in CFRA that if any member feels that someone was not driving in a safe and courteous manor, that one individual can block a membership. In the case of the Z06, he frightened at least one of the “B” drivers and they didn’t want him to become a member. None of the “A” members had any problem with his driving. In short, he was too fast for the group that he selected.

As for the Ford GT, I don’t remember anyone blocking that membership. I can always check records if you would like. I just assumed the Ford GT didn’t accept membership because his friend wasn’t offered membership.

Please note that this was not a personality issue. It was just that he was too fast for the “B” group. He’s a very good driver and belonged in “A”. I spoke with him a few times and he seemed like a really nice guy.

If this is not the Laguna Seca event from 5 years ago, then I apologize as then I have no memory of the event. However, if this was at Laguna Seca, then you may wonder how I have such a detailed memory of what transpired? I think the Ford GT is the coolest car in the world and I would give up ever going to the track again just to own one. I complained for months how the Ford GT owner didn’t join CFRA because his friend wasn’t offered membership. I was not happy. Still not happy!

I can only assume that there was a misunderstanding as to your membership as I would remember if you had been rejected. Besides, if someone blocks membership, we tell the person exactly why they were turned down.

In short, your friend was too fast for “B” and scared some members. He was great in “A”. I think in your case it was just an over site.

I do have to respect our policy that allows a member to block someone they are not comfortable with on track. That’s the only way we have maintained a perfect non-contact record for the 17 years we have been hosting open-track sessions. I do apologize because it seems that you were collateral damage through some mistake of ours.

I’m happy to let you both be guests again (50% discount) since it’s been 5 years and provided the Z06 owner only drives in “A”. Once again, a very nice guy but way too fast for “B”. The “B“ driver who blocked your friend’s membership may no longer even be a member. Of course, I completely understand and respect if you want nothing more to do with us, as in your case we made an error. However, in the case of the Z06, we followed policy, even though at times it may be flawed…..

Sounds like a tremendous day at Infineon. Ever since I did the Jim Russell School there I've wanted to get the GT on that track.
It's almost worth driving up there for the weekend.....but I'm already running at Auto Club Speedway that day (poor in comparo to Infineon, but no noise issues and you get to run up on the Super speedway track).

Infineon is a great track but not many performance cars can meet that sound limit. Many cars fresh out of the showroom floor will fail.
