'Many "morals" to this story, but pbly the biggest is; know what you have, where it is, and who the devil has access to it!

That part about the car being registered in Cali for a couple years to what's their names sometime back pbly wouldn't fly. How many times have we heard of somebody's Mustang being stolen back in '65, FOUND in the possession of a supposedly "legal" owner in 2001, and handed BACK to the guy from whom it'd been stolen? And usually it's been restored in the meantime! :lol

Actually - last one I heard was reported last year in southern California. She had the car 30+ yrs as a graduation present. Turned out to be stolen and VIN didn't match title. Original owner gave it to for $30, a dollar for every year...

Nice guy - hmmmmmmm. What would Larry do
1. Complain about the miles?
2. Yell becasue it was left outside?
3. Complain about how bad shape she has the car in after 30 yr's...

I vote 3.
:rofl

First Shelby Cobra Daytona Coup. Carroll Shelby built 6 of these. This is the prototype and the only
one built in the USA. It won the Seabring Enduro race and also raced at Le Mans. It set 23 land speed
records at the Bonneville salt flats in 1965. It ended up in the hands of an eccentric woman who
lived in the California woods and wouldn't let anyone look at it. Not even Shelby himself could see it
when he went to visit her. It stayed locked away for 25 years, until the woman committed suicide. Then her
mother sold it to a collector for about $3 Million in 2001. Dr. Simeone wouldn't say but the rumors on the
internet suggest he paid $4 Million for it in 2002

Thanks for the link this link was apparently before The Doc's museum got a recent make-over.

Actually, that picture was taken in Dr. Simeone's private collection, when he had all his cars in a 2-level warehouse just off of South Street in Philadelphia. Now, he has all his cars in a brand-new Museum down in Philadelphia by the airport/automall. I've been there and its WORTH THE TRIP!! Dr. Simeone is a wonderful person, who will talk cars with anyone. I was lucky to see his collection several years before the Museum opened, and I was thrilled to see all his wonderful cars. :thumbsup

Martin Eyears, the guy that made the deal, is my friends dad. My dad and I knew he raced cars, but had no idea about this until a few years ago when we stumbled across it online!!
