I received an email about SVTFest. They are saying that the 12 gt500 will be there. Anyone hear anything yet?

Wondering where the improvements can be made and still keep it true to theme?

I am pretty sure an IRS is not going to happen.

My only hope is that they would redesign the rear fascia and would fire whomever is picking some of the oddest color combos (Interior/Exterior).

Ford is already building and selling the 2012 gt500.

Would Ford build 2 different 2012 model year gt500's?

I read that the 2012 GT500 will have wide band O2 from the factory and run closed loop all the time. Just set the A/F in the tune and the computer does the rest. :thumbsup

I guess this mystery will be solved next week. Kindof strange to let the 12s out early after kicking a$$ with the 11.

12s have been out and in show rooms for a while now. I have seen several sitting in showrooms on my search for a Boss 302. I have been very tempted to get one because of the delays in Boss production, but I would want to see the 2013 GT 500 before I would do that. Maybe this will be a 2013?:biggrin

According to my previous knowledge a manufacturer can't release the next year model until Jan. 1 of the previous year. That being said, a 2013 couldn't be released until Jan. 1, 2012.

This makes sense. The 11 Ford Mustangs were released around Feb 2010. The 12 Mustangs were released around Feb/March 2011. With Ford showing off the new mustang 7/8 months before production officially begins in early 2012.

Looks like the new GT500 will make over 600 HP, which should maintain it's dominance over the Camaro ZL1 which was recently claimed by Chevrolet to debut making more HP than the CTS-V's 556.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1056966_2013-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-spy-shots

Early this spring, word emerged on the Web that the 2013 Shelby GT500 could kick out as much as 620 horsepower. Shortly after we brought you the first spy shots of the new car. Today, we update the images with a new set that hints at a turbocharger replacing the supercharger under the hood.

A larger, higher-capacity intercooler spotted peeking out from behind the grille is the cue for the turbo speculation. It may simply be an upgrade to the supercharged model, but it might also indicate a need for yet more charge-cooling capability brought on by twin-turbocharging.

If it doesn't get a twin-turbo V-8, the next GT500 is expected to pack a 5.8-liter supercharged V-8 based on the current aluminum-block 5.4-liter engine. Either way, the new GT500 has the coming 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 squarely in its sights. If it's an improvement on the current GT500, Chevy will have a very hard time matching, let alone beating, the Shelby.

The rest of the GT500 shouldn't change much: it will look much like the current car, should have a similar suspension and performance package setup, and will of course be a solid-axle, rear-drive layout. Interior quality may see another uptick, and it'll likely get a few new tech features as Ford has been pushing hard in that segment lately.

Beyond that, it's a waiting game to see what the next Shelby GT500 will offer. We just can't wait to get one on track.

I wonder when the new Ford's will start taking advantage of the new air-injected plastic Ford was showing off, the GT-500 could still lose a good amount of weight and I would love to see it contending with more European supercars.
