I don't get it. Can someone explain why the guys at SVT didn't give the gt bigger brakes...you know, like the Nissan GT-R.

Vegas baby!!

Has your brake performance ever disapointed you? Many times manufacturer use parts that don't work any better, but rather increases the sales opportunities. Brake design involves traded offs in cost, weight, performance, durability, etc.

I gotta say, we got some mileage outa that comment.... :rofl

Seems like every other joke for the rest of the rally started out with "So I've been pondering this for some time now.........."

Possibly the best part was someone's response from the audience... "If you dont like it, SELL IT!!" :thumbsup

Sorry, I'm usually not this inflammatory but cant help it considering the circumstances.

... 'cause you know the Enzo has em, and the Carrera GT has em... I just don't understand why Ford cheaped out on a car that MSRP'd 300K less???? :willy :willy

Another answer that I loved was "when it is that good already why mess with it?"

For some reason the C&D results did not impress the guy who simply wanted bigger brakes :lol

That's 200 - 0 in only 1088 feet by the way....

Anyone know what the "competitors" can do it in?? Serious question...

And only the ones with the big ceramic 6 piston set ups... just to be fair :banana

Are you trying to get my buddy fired up again? Heheh.

The discussion apparently did not end there...Apparently the "brake naysayers" went on to say that they own THREE GT's so they have a right to know the answers to their questions. Interesting...

Apparently a few people just don't understand what an incredible achievement the Ford GT is.

My guess is those same people probably won't tend to hold on to their GT's long. Why keep something you don't like? Why buy two more of something that you don't like?

Their GT would probably be happy to move to an owner(s) that are appreciative of what they have, and appreciative of the love and effort that went into the design, creation, performance results, and successful on time delivery.

so true, I used to have a crappy 90 fox body 5.0 that wouldnt stop worth a cr*p and it handled worst than that and it rattled like a snake, and it even smelled(dont ask) but I loved that car, I made the mistake of selling it for nothing and I would give a fortune to have it back, the type of people that make comments like that dont have an emotional bond with thier cars, hence it is no more than the sum of its parts, but for me my cars are a lot more than that, thats why I can never sell any of them, and my latest (the GT) well thats kinda like the favorite wife in the heram:biggrin

Incredible. How can someone NOT understand time and budget restraints???:bored

BTW, wasn't this the same guy that "dive bombed" someone into turn 1 on the lead follow laps? I only bring this up because maybe he's got a point, you know brake fade can be a serious issue...:lol

I've been quietly sitting here waiting for someone to say this. Another point is that overbuilding is lousy engineering.

Hats off to the Ford team

The car that dive-bombed in turn 1 of a lead-follow session had no license plate (I was right behind him before the pass). The guy who asked the brake question the night before never wore his Rally badge. I guess some people want to remain anonymous.

On Thursday evening, the Ford guys clearly stated that the GT met or exceeded their target specifications. When the brake question was asked, their response reiterated that the car met the braking goals - it was a valid answer to the question. The further comments by the questioner were non-productive, and the response from the group was appropriate.

Automotive history is littered with cars that were never built because they went over time or budget restraints. My hat's off to the team at Ford for staying focused and taking this car to production in an incredibly short time. If they had started changing target specifications in mid-project, this car would have never been built.

Peak,

Great photo. Car looks like a fighter plane landing on a carrier deck...after the tail hook has grabbed. Front air dam is almost touching the ground. Stock brakes and pads are fine for track usage, IMHO. I see minimal brake fade. With the Ti backing plates we'll see how much less heat transfer occurs to the brake fluid and calipers.
