Thanks, Tomy.
Was this before your time? The Freeway dragstrip, Houston, 1958, run by the Gay family. That is me in the right front of this picture, with my Cushman scooter front wheels and hubs.
Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!
Cheers,
Eddie FourFather Hill
Thank you, STORMCAT!
I made my self a mental note to call Darrell- and then I guess I lost my note- I need to do that!
All the best,
Eddie FourFather Hill
Thank you, sir. I just feel very fortunate and blessed to have been able to chase my dreams for these many years.
May God bless you and yours-
Eddie FourFather Hill
Thanks, Cobraguy! That was a very intense weekend for us, repeated lows early on, then incredible highs as it started going our way.
Cheers,
Eddie FourFather Hill
Thanks Mike, for the kind words. Both Ercie and I were impressed that you remembered the 4.93 we turned while winning the final over Joe Amato.
We actually "outran ourselves" for the national record of 4.93, because of the 1% backup rule. If we had run 4.94 in the final, that would have stood...
And this is the car, driver, tuner, and team manager.
The short one is the the brains AND the looks of the team-
4.990 and 288.55 mph on 4/9/88, the day that seemed to demand it.
Big fun - good memories.
Thanks for the post and the message that Darrell wants to talk. I'll get in touch with him.
He and I had a great relationship, and lots of good races between us.
One story is the "First in the Fours" weekend at the Texas Motorplex.
Darrell was directly in front of me in the staging...
My miniature Daschund, Hot Rod, likes to drive my Ariel Atoms, but she is vertically challenged, so I have to hold her up so she can reach the steering wheel. And I have to work the pedals for her. Her favorite drive is through the pits at Hallett Motor Raceway, near Tulsa.
We paid ~$1200 per drum, about $23 per gallon, so with warmups before the run, and when we ran four qualifiers, and four more rounds to win the final, we paid about $2500 just for fuel for the weekend.
