Just so folks know what I'm talking about, here's a photo showing the pins installed in the old liner. .

The pins are inserted from the inside of the trunk, and are a press fit through steel washers about 1” diameter on the outside of the liner. So the nylon pins are fixed in place and protrude out of the front of the liner. My guess is that the pins locate the liner in the car by the pins...
