Ford GT to be built by Multimatic

One of the key questions about the new Ford GT has been answered.  At this morning’s Canadian International Auto Show, Ford Executive Vice President and President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs revealed that the all new Ford GT would be built in Markham, Ontario by Multimatic.   If the GT can be produced in it’s entirety in Markham, it will represent a departure from the last Ford GT production arrangment.  With the 2005 GT, Ford  shuttled cars between the non-UAW Saleen Special Vehicles in Troy and UAW-led Wixom Assembly a little over 30 miles away.

This won’t be the first time Multimatic has partnered with a major manufacturer to produce a carbon construction supercar.  The carbon composite monocoque of the nearly $2-million Aston Martin One-77 was engineered and produced by Multimatic.   They also house one of the largest commercial autoclaves in North America, which will be critical as Ford seeks to build not just the passenger compartment but the entire body of the new GT in carbon Fiber.

The company is also well known for their suspension expertise, and their DSSV dampers have been standard equipment on the One-77, the track-focused Camaro Z28, and the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT.  The new 2015 Ford Mustang utilizes Multimatic forged steel suspension links with integral ball joints and the company supplies suspension components for the new aluminum F-150 as well.

Ford GTs will be baked here soon.

In addition to offering a wide array of engineering services for the automotive industry, Multimatic has a full motorsports division and has frequently partnered with Ford in the past.  They currently campaign two Ford Mustang Boss 302Rs in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and have campaigned many Fords since their first Taurus SHO in 1992.  It remains to be seen whether Ford will partner with Multimatic in any future Ford GT racing endeavors, but it seems likely.

Was wondering what Ford was going to do about all that Carbon Fiber. McLaren took hundreds of hours making the carbon fiber for their F1 model back then and only takes them 4 hours today to do the same amount. They will not being producing these in large numbers as some has hoped. Hoe to see a Lemans victory again in the future!

I was just reading over some engineering specs. of the Aston Martin Vulcan. Just realized the carbon fiber will be from MuliMatic. Just 24 will be produced and probably be done before the GT starts it's production run. It just sheds a little light on what MM is doing.
