Just wondering what people are paying to insure their FGTs? I am using State Farm and have been paying $750.00 every six months, now down to $650.00. This seems excessive, as I have had one ticket in my life, insure upwards of 9 cars on one policy, but it doesn't matter. The rate seems to high.

If you are doing better than that with a reputable company I would appreciate the information.

Doc, I'm paying $600 every six months with USAA and have 10 cars on the policy. Our residential location hurts us.

$600 every 6 months with Allstate. Policy specifies Replacement not a preset value.

Technically, if you keep your cars in the garage and off the road you can have them insured under the home policy. Also, if you own a company with many vehicles, such as delivery trucks, that would be where you should have them insured.

sounds like we are all getting the shaft, but in the same ball park!

Amazing, I pay $3.56 a day to keep my FGT in the garage!

I recommend Safeco

I pay $652.20 semi-annual for $500 deductable full coverage in NorCal. They have paid out promptly for my 2 claims. I have 6 vehicles insured by them. I would definitely recommend them.

Ed

PS They cover open tracks also if they are not timed or competitive events.

Any mileage limitations on the above policies? I am with Classic a site sponsor and pay $1200/year but am limited to 3K miles/year which is proving to be difficult. No track events permitted either.

You must look upon that as just "your fair share" of what's sometimes referred to as the "GT tax load", sir. :wink :lol

Honestly, with all the risk involved to the insurance provider, I feel that $100 to $150 a month is a bargain. The insurance company will be paying out BIG TIME if anything (even something little) is claimed. With all the GTs that get totalled, wrecked, etc, I am suprised that the rates are not higher than they are. I think my insurance on my personal GT through State Farm is $110 a month. I am happy with that! :)

Gents -

Shelby is right. The GT, just like any newer exotic is a higher risk for most auto carriers. The loss stats show higher claims ratio on newer exotics than the older antiques. Keep in mind, most standard insurance carriers (your USAA, State Farm, Allstate, etc) rate the car as if you would be driving it everyday (even if you tell them you do not). Their rate filings are not setup like a collector car program is. Now I have told a lot of people on this forum that comparing insurance premium vs another is never apples to apples. So many different factors go into rate (age, location, year of car, value you want to insure, mileage plan, etc).

Our agency feels the GT is a good risk for us (knock on wood). We own one, so we understand the unique aspect of the car. Ours is not a huge risk, only has 280 miles (I am sure I will hear about that). However, for the guys/gals on this forum that we have taken care of, we have tailored the policy to get you the best rate based on your driving habit for the car. Our prices have averaged $1100 to $1400 depending on some of the factors mentioned above. For those of you with more than just the GT as a collector car, we have collection discounts available as well, which makes the premium even more competitive.

A few risks you take between the collector policy and keeping it insured with a standard carrier. One, how are they going to pay you out if the car is totaled? On Actual Cash Value, Wholesale, or Full Retail. Our program is Agreed Value for GT owners. The value we agree on at policy inception is what you are paid. Now I know some of you drive the car on a daily basis, you are not a good fit for our program. Thus regular auto coverage suits you the best. We are flexible in mileage plans; 1000, 3000, and 6000 (unlimited in some states as well). We like this tier, as it is priced to your driving habits.

Noticed that many of your posts were from owners in California. We have a really great filing in CA that has been beneficial to those with multiple collector cars and stand alone GT. We also offer Special Client Services through AIU for you Californians that could be of service to you given the brush fire/earthquake risk. You can put all of your property on one policy (homes, regular use cars, jewelry, boats, collector cars, etc). Let me know if any of you have interest on that program.

In the meantime, if you want a no obligation quote from me, call me at 800-397-0765 or you can email me at drew@classicins.com. Would love to help if we can. Any further questions/thoughts, you can PM me as well.

State Farm : $740/6mo in NY; 5000 mi/yr

I would raise your deductible to $2000...its self insuring, ex-the big stuff...and can save $100-300/6mo

Hagerty, Grundy, and other MGAs charge $2400+/yr.....I have my '68 SL with Hagerty for $800/yr.

They seem to like classics, not exotics.

Mine is $705 every six months with State Farm. I would love it to be less, but I'm thrilled its not more.....

Well, a lot of it IS self induced!:lol But, thank ya anyway! :thumbsup :cheers

But, getting back to the topic, rates COULD be a lot lower if this kinda stuff (and the results that often come from it) weren't happening:

About $1,000/year through Heacock Classic. This is an AGREED VALUE policy at $160,000. Mileage limitation is 1k/year.

I pay a total of $1,550/year for the GT, '08 GT500 (3,000 miles/year limitation and $50k replacement value) and '64 Lincoln 'vert (3,000 miles/year limitation and $35k replacement value).

I have found that if you insure a classic/collectible car (like the GT) with one of these Classic car insurers, they will accomodate you and pick a more mudane car like the GT500 as long as it's not your DD.

I self-insure a little with a $2,000 ded insuring the GT up to $160,000. I pay $433.00 every 6 months through American National Property and Casuality Company. Go to www.anpac.com to locate an agent in your area. The milage is limited to 10,000 per year. I know rates vary depending what state you live in.

I go through Hagerty on a couple of my cars and the rest through Allstate. Agreed value from Hagerty. I need to look and see how much I pay. :confused
