Awesome shots. I love how you can see the aero working on the GT's. In most of the pics you can see how the front splitters are pushing down on the outboard sides from all of the downforce. You can also see how the front is pushing down on all of the cars except for the open clamshell one. Quite a bit of front end lift on that one because of the unintentional "parachute".

Just as a side note, if I remember correctly, on a totally stock (suspension) car the suspension should be just about bottomed out at 205mph. That was design intent.

Also on the open clamshell this is why there were 2 hooks, just in case. One would have flexed the clamshell and let it fly off. It happened in the wind tunnel once. Nothing but pieces afterwards.

Let me do it.

Hey Ray,

As you will almost certainly make history at your next event, let's be photo ready. I would like the honor of tapeing your car to protect it from rocks before you run. In the photos below the entire rocker panel, wheel well edges, scoop leading edges, and the panel below & behind my side scoops are taped. I used black tape to recreate the side stripes behind the doors. A smooth surface has less drag but more important, it looks better in the pictures!! :lol Your tape looks like it was done at a UPS shipping dock. :biggrin

I am still on a high, I had so much fun with you and your crew last weekend. I can't wait for the next event. :banana :banana :banana

Does that mean those that running significantly faster than 205 should up the rate rates on the suspension, or risk bottoming out? My understanding is having zero suspension compliance is a bad thing, but maybe on a "smooth" runway maybe not a big issue.

at 226 I did not "bottom out" and if I did I could not tell.

Just look for scape marks under the front end after the fact. I would agree that at 226 it would be very hard to hear it.

Chip, if that was during braking you are fine, could lower it a bit. If still accelerating and at 220, then I would think the front end might scrape under hard braking.

Even with the shocks bottomed out, the front splitter would still be a couple inches from the ground. It would not scrape. Ray and I are both using Penski coilovers with spring rates much higher than stock. Even those stiffer springs were compressed the majority of their travel at the mile mark. It's a trade off adjusting them to avoid a nose up attitude while accelerating in the first half of the run and scooping air under the car, but still having some travel left near the end of the run as the nose is forced down by aero force.

The Penski shocks are adjustable for spring rate, pre-load, travel, and have seperate adjustments for compression and rebound dampening so differen't combos can be tried. The stock shocks would have the car more nose high at the start and more nose low at the finish.

I like it the other way.....as if you're about to run right off the damn page...or the camera just couldn't keep up. A real sense of speed there.

I meant space from the nose of my car to the edge of the photo. :lol I photoshopped the image to move the car away from the extreem right edge of the photo.

The nose low pose of my car is not under braking. That's accelerating between the 3/4 and 1 mile markers. Looking at the photos below I think I have it set up pretty well. In the first picture at rest the car is 1/2 inch nose low. Accelerating near the start in photo two it is level. As soon as the turbos hit in 2nd gear it is slightly nose high. And as speed builds the nose drops as the shocks compress. When I hit the brakes above 210 the shocks are compressed all the way until the car slows down a bit.

FWIW last Texas Mile (10-2009) I had the stock size R6's on the rear and the PS2's on the front which are a inch smaller than stock and did not scrape when hauling down from 226 mph. This was with stock shocks and stock ride height. If you find pics of my car from then you will see the rake is much more than Chips.
