Fuel Filling Problems

I've had the car a few weeks now and had no problems filling up before but the last two times I have.

Today I put the nozzle in and it would not take gas faster than a slow trickle
no matter what angle or depth I put it in.

The other other thing is that I have a odor of gas now coming into the car.
The car also stalled on me today for the first time as I slowed down to a stop.
( The idle seems to be flucuating a bit too and is at around 500 RPM)

Any ideas on what is happening?

Are they pretty easy to replace?

not too bad but its work! according to some the fender has to be removed, but the last time I spend any time working on that area of the car I seem to remember it might be removable without removing the fender, the fender liner has to be removed and that is a pain.

Your flapper valve broke off and is blocking the hose. The same thing happened to me during Rally 3.

In the future you might wanna keep a plastic, long neck funnel in the car's "boot" so you can c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y insert that into the filler neck before fueling. That will prevent cutting the seal, etc. (That was suggested on wunna the threads somewhere. 'Not sure if it's the one you just posted. :wink)

(Edit: I'd carefully ROUND the edge around the funnel's spout with some fine sandpaper before using it, too, so that there is no chance the FUNNEL could cause damage either! lol!)

If you drive the car like EP you will never have a problem with the gas filler!

It should be easily done as long as the fender LINER is removed. Removing the actual fender is not needed. Sorry to hear of this problem. I have only had two or three customers ever have this problem out of 200 GTs sold. Know what, maybe you need to send it back to us to do and have the double din radio, etc, installed...... ;)

Just finished the fuel filler nozzle R&R yesterday. Fender does not need to come off. Old filler is held by two sheet metal screws, a retainer bracket bolted to frame, and two hose connections.

Two tricky parts...rotating the fuel filler nozzle out of the plastic "nozzle door mechanism" (with the old one still installed in the car) and last but not least...the fender liner takes some doing to get out.

It helps to take a good look at your new replacement nozzle to figure out how the mechanism comes apart. You can see the two screws below:

Thanks for the nice pics.
BTW, the parts man at Ford says he shows only 8 of these left, period!

Seems someone has stocked up to sell for lot's of $$$ in the future...

...who knows a Ford GT isn't a Mustang, yes, quite possibly! :lol

"BTW, the parts man at Ford says he shows only 8 of these left, period!"

Until recently, the headlight buckets were "zero". The filler situation will be corrected in due time, too.
