I have been a GT owner since 2006. I love the car and want to keep it stock. I have been wanting to get a Safir
GT40 to vintage race. Can anyone tell me the value of these continuation cars? Anyone know of one for sale here in the USA?
Thank you in advance for your efforts on my behalf.

The last Safir Engineering car I saw listed for sale was a couple years ago for about $400k.

Why a safir? They are awesome but for vintage racing where you stand a greater than zero chance of something happening and hive the price of safirs why not a superformance? A member here changed from a Ford gt to a spf GT40 and I have to admit it is one sweet machine and as far as I know qualifies for vintage racing

Here's a gem for about$330,000. But, Tony's right. Buy a SPF, even the "R" version for probably 1/3 the $$. Outside the provenance, if there is such a thing on a continuation, there's little reason not to buy the SPF. Remember, the Safir cars are 30 years old too.

I'd love to be able to say I had Lord Beaverbrook's car. That would be worth a few Quid.

Where did you find the $330,000 price? I didn't see it in the advertisement.

Thank you. I see the listing is dated November 2011. I wonder if the car has found a permanent home.

Here is a thread on gt40s.com which explains some of the features of the Safir Engineering GT40s generally and the Beaverbrook car in particular:

Here is an excerpt from Ronnie Spain's book:

Superformance GT40's also are continuation chassis, and they do qualify for vintage racing. Parts are the same and are interchangeable with the original GT40. The standard car can go on the street, the R is track only.

330,000 for a MkV is a relative steal, assuming the car is right. The last two I've seen sell in the U.S. were around $400,000:

Here's another MkV, but this one might be a handful. It has the power of a pulley/tune GT, but weighs bout 1500 lbs less.

Sold last week for about $257,000 at time of sale, a relative bargain for a car like this:

For sure. I would've happily paid that for the car

Last spring I was in Naples visiting a friend. I was excited that Gulf Coast Motorworks (Superformance dealer) had a GT40 Markl in stock in the Gulf colors. I think it is still there. I thought I always wanted to own one of these some day. I went in and tried to sit in the car, and I couldn't fit in it. I asked, "So what do you do, drive with the door open?" The salesman laughed and said I didn't look too comfy. He said they could cut the foam down in the seat which they have done for taller drivers. The seat didn't seem that thick to me. Anyway, I am 6' 2" and there was no way I could get comfortable in this car. I would advise sitting in one before ever purchasing one. Loved the car otherwise.

FWIW, I know of 2 Mk Vs in Ohio, one not even completed, for $350,000 (the incomplete car will be finished for that price), but $250,000 & change? I would've been tempted to import that car.

I'm much shorter than you Rick and it's a tight fit even for me. Love 'em though.

I talked to the dealer about that exact car. If its the one I was inquiring about, RHD with Right hand sill shifter. Those are the specs I would want in that car. On my wish list.

Hello, I am 187 cms, and with a fullface open Helmet i sat in a GT 40 from a swiss collector, but the car had the so called "Gurney-Bubble" in the roofpart of the right side drivers door.
Remember please, that Dan Gurney was 192 cm tall when he was competing in the sixties with these GT 40-ies, and i am not deadsure, A.J. Foyt was quite tall as well and sat in those 7-Litre GT 40 as well in the Le Mans 24 hrs race at that specific year !!

with fordistic greetings

Felix

at time in Spain:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

For the record they also beat down the floor pan are at the seat base for Dan to gain some extra head clearance space
