UPDATE; A solution to valve cover bolt Corrosion......ARP replacements
I don't know how many of you have valve cover bolts that just look terrible. My are pitted and ugly. I already replaced my coil covers with new for the same reason.
Some of you may know that nobody offers a stainless steel replacement. Nope, not even ARP.
Today, I committed to several hundred Bolts to get ARP to make exact duplicates of our factory bolts. (we have been going back and forth for weeks on this). That includes the very important nub at the end of the threaded bolt shaft. This nub ensures that you will not over tighten and damage the valve cover and the cool grommet seal system built into the valve cover.
That nub nearly doubled the cost of the bolt but it was necessary to make it right.
The bolts will come fully polished, individually wrapped at ARP and will have the same flange and head size as stock. Most of you know ARP is proud of their products but I will be able to get them for about $12.50 per bolt ($200 per engine for the 16 visible bolts) plus shipping which should not be too much.
I already made the purchase, since these are custom order bolts, it will be 14-15 weeks until they are ready to ship. I am starting a list of anyone who would like a set here .
BTW I inquired about making the heads 12 point. This is extremely difficult with such a wide head and narrow shaft. That would increase the cost at least another 50% and after the nub, I called it good for now.
Here are pictures of my corroded bolts, and some new bolts with the critical rounded nub at the end.
