I was speaking to someone the othe day and they told me that they thought there were a 1,000 gt's of the 4,000 gt's totaled. Does anyone have any knowledge on this. I am not sure longer term if this will increase value but just really curious because that seems like a really high number.

Don't know how many have been totaled but I recently saw two that have rebuilt and for sale on eBay with salvage titles.

25% totaled seems very high to me. I know the car is a beast, but I'd like to think more than 75% of owners are capable of driving them safely.

I don't have a better number, but would guess that it would be closer to 5% - 8%.

I thought I remembered reading that about 12% were gone. Others here would know better than I.

I think the "high" number includes cars that went overseas never to be seen here again. Please remember, "totalled" is an insurance term and doesn't mean undriveable or unfixable.

I agree Frank.
I think a reasonable assumption would be 10-12%.
It may have started out higher, but the process of natural selection diminishes those fools who wreck cars due to personal injury (although the cars are very safe as the stats bear out) or financial considerations.
And who knows about the cars which left the US.....

I think 10% "WAS" a good #....

I think we are well into mid double digits (if not triple) of totalled/salvage cars being rebuilt, and re-titled and back on road.

Andy in Lufkin emailed me at one point, and mentioned 20 thru his shop alone.

Easily have seen 12-15 Salvage GT for sale on ebay , ex above.

No exact tally exists of GT's no longer driveable.

Totaled ( as in lost forever ) vs insurance $ totaled and repaired, are, as has been mentioned earlier in this thread, are two entirely different categories.

And then there are few that had a big $$$"owie" that were repaired w/o insurance co. involvement and avoided the issuance of a salveged vehicle title.

And there are a few that have been wrecked and repaired more than once. And there are a few drivers that have wrecked more than one.

Using the 8-10% accident rate per year, approximately 300 to 400 GT's are in the repair shop every year.

So from 2005 to 2010 ---it could estimated as many as 1,538 to 2,015 have been hurt, repaired, totalled or turned into racecars.

I appreciate all of the responses and opinions. It doesn't really seem like anyone really knows. Might be an interesting thing to track. Longer term the value of these cars will be influenced by how many actually are left.

My curiosity would be this breakdown.

1. Totalled beyond repair. Parts cars only.

2. Totalled but now race or (rebodied??) modified cars not particularly street legal.

3. Totalled and repaired for consumer use.

4. Heavily damaged, repaired, but not totalled.

5. Cars exported (both new and since)

Ok. This thread is depressing. I have seen several and one close to wher I live which went up the curb... I just think people should get to know the car before they press the gass. Its like a beautiful latin girl with an attitude!!! Dont mess with her or she will cut yr blls off!!! :) Its not a Porsche and its not a Ferrari. Its Shakira!!! :)

Plus remeber many GT owners who munch them have the money to just fix them up and not deal with insurance. So the stats mean nothing and this is the exact reason to go through one of our brothers to get our next GT. ie. Shelby Sometimes I even doubt if mine had a little bumber to bumber as one of the pannels does not quite match the color perfectly and yes the former owner could have easily just fixe up a pole mark!!! Hope not but whatever. Just drive her and sing Alejandro Alejandro... Shakira :)

Lorena Bobbitt fits that description perfectly!

John Wayne Bobbitt (born March 23, 1967 in Buffalo, New York) and Lorena Bobbitt (née Gallo) (born 1970 in Bucay, Ecuador) were an American couple, married on June 18, 1989, whose difficult relationship gained worldwide notice for an incident in 1993 when Lorena severed John's penis with a knife. The penis was subsequently surgically re-attached.

I have been keeping track of GTs that have been wrecked since they were launched. I don't think there is any way that anyone can come up with a really accurate number, as so many have been fixed "off the books", and some of them have even had their titles washed. Then there is the legitimate discussion about "how far wrecked is really totalled?"

My database includes cars that have been totalled, repaired, re-titled, etc. I have even seen examples of cars that have been wrecked that have clean CARFAX reports, or salvage titles cleaned. If you have personal knowledge of a GT that has been wrecked, please send me an e-mail with the information, including the VIN, so that I can include the information in my database. The information you provide may help some Forum member in the future from getting "taken" on a car with a clouded history. Nothing wrong with buying or fixing wrecked GTs, however, a potential buyer SHOULD have access to the history of the car, including any accident repair history.

regards,

Jeff

... and yes the former owner could have easily just fixe up a pole mark!!!

...or 'simply had a scratch or small imperfection/blemish/scratch attended to. I'd tend to think that would be the most likely reason in most cases, 'cause that sorta thing has a greater likelihood of happening to ANYBODY's car at anytime - & it's USUALLY someone other than the car's owner who's caused it. :bored :cheers

supply and demand rules $$$$$$$

i figure every time a GT gets totalled mine goes up $100 in value. every time a Black GT gets totalled mine goes up $1,000 in value. finally every time a GT sets the new standing mile world record mine goes up $10,000 in value :biggrin
